Floris Families,

Another busy and amazing week at Floris.

Fall picture day was Tuesday, students are beginning to really get into the routines, and we completed our first Lockdown Drill yesterday. Teachers are focused on administering and analyzing beginning of the year assessments to determine the next best steps for our students.

If your children missed picture day, the photographers will be back on the morning of October 24 for make-ups.

Next Tuesday evening, Amy Albanese and Katie Pickett, our Advanced Academic Resource teachers, will have a Parent Information Session in the Floris café from 6:30-7:30pm. You should enter via Door 6 (into the café from the blacktop).

Our first PTA meeting of the school-year is next Wednesday, September 20, 6:30-7:30pm in the Floris café. Remember PTA will have ice cream at this meeting! Please plan to enter via Door 6 (into the café from the blacktop). We hope to see many of you there.

For those celebrating Rosh Hashana, Shanah Tovah!

Have a fantastic weekend!

#EveryEagleEveryDay

Rosh Hashanah

Shanah tovah to our Jewish community celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year! Meaning “head of the year,” Rosh Hashanah is one of Judaism’s holiest days and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of introspection that ends with Yom Kippur.

Friday, September 15, is a half observation day in recognition of Rosh Hashanah, which begins at sundown. Half-O days are full school days, but important events will not be held after school on those days.

Toys and Balls

Toys and Balls from Home

We encourage parents and caregivers to remind their students to keep their toys and special playground balls at home. When personal items are brought to school, there is a likelihood that these items can be lost or damaged.  Toys such as Pokémon cards can be expensive and are easy to lose. These items may only be brought to school if your child has a special sharing day that has been scheduled and approved by your child's teacher.

National Hispanic Heritage Month

From September 15 to October 15, FCPS recognizes and celebrates the histories and cultures of the members of our community who trace their heritage to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Learn more about the heritage months, celebrations, and traditions celebrated in FCPS. Learn more about National Hispanic Heritage Month

Fairfax Fiesta- Fairfax County's inaugural Hispanic Heritage Celebration, the Fairfax Fiesta, is taking place on Saturday, Sept. 23, from noon to 5 p.m., at the PARC at Tysons (8508 Leesburg Pike). The free event, presented by the Fairfax County Government and Celebrate Fairfax!, aims to provide an extraordinary experience for all ages and backgrounds. Learn more about Fairfax Fiesta.

Constitution Day

Constitution Day, also known as Citizenship Day, is a holiday that recognizes the adoption of the US Constitution and honors all those who are citizens, as well as those who have become citizens of the United States. It is observed on September 17, the day on which the constitution was adopted in 1787.

Lunch Visitors

We want to thank our families for your patience as we have taken these first weeks of school to focus on routines and expectations. We are ready to begin having parents join their child for lunch starting Monday, October 2!

When you come to join your children for lunch:

  • Enter at Door 1 and report to the Main Office.
  • Using a government issued photo ID, you must sign-in and receive a visitor sticker.
  • Please ensure you are wearing the visitor sticker at all times.
  • Report directly to the cafeteria.
  • Enjoy lunch with your children.
  • Return to the main office to check-out using your sticker.
  • Lunch visitors should not go to the classroom or recess, so our daily schedule and routines can continue for our students.
  • We ask that you not bring fast food for lunch.
  • Please do NOT bring any food to share with other children, due to safety protocols and allergies.

We look forward to seeing lunch visitors starting October 2!
