Rose Hill Team Gearing Up for Staff & Students Returning!
We are excited to see the building come back to life. It's been very quiet these last two months and while there has been a lot of work taking place, we are ready to see our Rockets return! Please watch the welcome back video from the Rose Hill Administrative Team.
We have also written a Student/Parent Handbook. This two-page document highlights information that families will find useful such as how to report an absence, our school hours, what to do if there is a change in how a student is to get home, etc. The handbook is being translated into Spanish and once that is complete, it will be posted to the Rose Hill website. The English version can be found here.
RHES on NBC4!
The Rose Hill Administrative Team alongside Interim Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Grace Taylor, will be on NBC4 in the early morning of Wednesday, August 16th. We are working with Apple Federal Credit Union to host the backpack and school supply drive. We have been doing this the last few years as a way to help collect supplies for not only Rose Hill students but for all FCPS students. Below is a picture from last year's event. Be sure to tune in at the 6am and 7am hours to see us!
Three Ways Rose Hill Communicates with Families
There are three specific ways that Rose Hill communicates with families:
-
News You Choose (this is the platform being used to send out this newsletter). You can opt out of this but then you'd miss out on newsletters and other information that Rose Hill and FCPS share.
-
Talking Points - This is similar to text messaging. It comes directly to your electronic device and you can select the language you'd like to receive it in. You can also send anyone on the Rose Hill staff a direct message. Classroom teachers will be using this platform as one of the ways to communicate with families.
- e-Notify - This is used by FCPS and RHES to communicate very extremely important messages as well as emergencies. You cannot opt out of this and is used very judiciously. This can come to you via email, text, or phone call.
Getting the School Building Ready

During the last two months, the RHES custodial team has been working to deep clean the building. This includes removing all of the furniture from each classroom, stripping and waxing the floors, washing the walls, cleaning the rugs, then putting the furniture back. It's hard work and we are so appreciative of what they do to get the rooms, hallways, and shared spaces ready for our staff and students.

Rocket Launch & Popsicles on the Playground Details
The Rocket Launch is the Rose Hill version of an open house. Parents, guardians, and students are invited into the school building to meet their classroom teacher, drop off school supplies, sign up for PTA, get a Kiss & Ride number, and so much more!
This will take place Thursday, August 17th. For students in grades 1-6, comes between 2:00-3:30 and for grades Preschool and Kindergarten, come between 3:30-4:00. We do a later window of time for our youngest Rockets so the building is a bit quieter and not quite as congested.
You can come any time during the window of time. When you arrive, please enter through door 1 (main door) and head to the gym. This is where you will receive the name of your child's teacher and a building map so you know where to go. There will also be plenty of team members around to provide assistance and answer questions.
If you ordered school supplies from PTA, they will be already in the classroom when you arrive. If you need to get school supplies, the list can be found here.
The RHES Garden is in Full Bloom!

It's hard to capture the fullness of the Rose Hill garden in a few pictures but it has been very bountiful. The sunflowers are over 7' tall and the wild flowers are everywhere! Every day, we have been harvesting cherry tomotoes. We have two varieties and they are incredibly delicious. Over the last few years, we have been purposeful about planting vegetables so our students can experience watching the plants grow and it also shows were food comes from.
Girls on the Run (GOTR) Launching at RHES!
GOTR is an empowering youth development program that combines physical activity with confidence-boosting lessons, encouraging young girls to recognize their inner strength and potential. This fall, the program is set to make its debut at Rose Hill, offering an exciting opportunity for girls to engage in a fun and supportive environment. With its unique curriculum and emphasis on building self-esteem, teamwork, and healthy habits, GOTR aims to inspire a new generation of confident and resilient young women.
Mark your calendars, as registration for this transformative experience opens on August 14! Don't miss the chance to enroll your child in a program that nurtures both their physical and emotional well-being.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, eating breakfast at school is associated with better attendance rates, fewer missed school days, and better test scores. Students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals receive breakfast and lunch at school at no cost.
As of October 31, 2022, approximately 34% of students in FCPS qualify for free and reduced-price meals. Families in FCPS that are earning less than 185% of the poverty level can receive meals for their students at no cost.
Families should complete the application before the start of each school year. Approved applications may also qualify students for additional benefits. View the criteria and apply on the Free and Reduced-Price Meals webpage. Families should reach out to their schools with questions or for assistance.
Some schools participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). All students enrolled at these schools will be offered breakfast and lunch each day at no charge. Households with students attending these schools will not be required to submit a meal application form for their students to receive meals at no charge. Each household with students attending these schools will receive communication about the CEP, including contact information for any questions. Check the list of schools participating in the CEP.
Families and students from other schools who would like to apply for free and reduced-price meals may view eligibility guidelines on our website.
