A Note from the Principal

Rocky Run Families,

I hope that you have been enjoying your summer vacation and you are looking forward to the new school year.  Staff and teachers have been busy planning for your return and working hard to make sure the school year is filled with exciting and engaging learning opportunities.  We can’t wait to welcome all of our students and parents to Rocky Run Middle School! 

Please read below for important back to school information.  It is a lot of information, but it helps to answer many of the commonly asked questions that arise as we prepare to open the new school year.  We will continue to provide information throughout the remainder of the summer.  RAISE the RAM!

Important Upcoming Dates

  • Week of Aug 14 - Bus schedules available through your SIS ParentVue account where you can see your transportation assignments.
  • Aug 17 – Rams Rally – 3:00pm-4:30pm – Open house for students and families.  You can walk the building, get information about the After School Program, visit with community resources, drop medication with the clinic staff, etc.  It's a great community event, and we hope to see you there!
  • Aug 17 - Student schedules, as well as locker information available in SIS student and parent VUE
  • Aug 18 – Student Orientation for students only - 8:30am-10:30am. Students will follow their schedule and meet their teachers in the classrooms.  More information will be sent about bus transportation.  Buses pick-up at local elementary school sites.
  • Aug 21 – First Day of School – School hours are 7:30am – 2:15pm.  Doors will open at 7:10am.
  • Sept 7 -  Back to School Night - In-person at 6:00pm
  • Sept 13 - 1st PTA meeting at 6:30pm in the library with a virtual Zoom option

Rocky Run Nuts and Bolts

  • Registering for SIS Parent VUE- It is important that parents and students are able to access your SIS account.  The Student Information System (SIS) supports all aspects of a student’s educational experience. SIS is a secure, web-based system accessible by staff, students, and parents.Visit this website to learn more about registering for your SIS account.
  • Morning Arrival Time- Students may enter the building at 7:10am.  The first class begins promptly at 7:30am, and students are expected to be in the classroom and ready to learn by that time.
  • Schedule & Calendar- The Rocky Run bell schedule and Blue/Gold day calendar can be found on the school website.
  • School Supplies- Students only need a writing utensil and a notebook for the first couple of days. Check out our list of recommended school supplies. Please note that some teachers may ask for specific supplies to organize materials for their classes; feel free to wait until after the first week of school to purchase these!
  • Laptops- Student laptops will be distributed to students through their PE classes during the first week of school beginning on Aug 23 & 24
  • Lunch- Lunches are available daily in the cafeteria.  Students cannot order food delivery.  Please do not deliver forgotten/special occasion lunches. Families who may qualify for free or reduced price meals are encouraged to complete an application at this link. 
  • Attendance- Information about RRMS attendance policies and reporting absences can be found on the school website here.  Regular school attendance is critical to student success and will be an area of focus for our school throughout the year.

If you have questions, please contact your student’s counselor, teachers, or administrative staff throughout the year. Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year!  It is going to be a great year!

Rocky Run Welcome Events

Summer Program Laptop Return

If your student used their FCPS issued laptop for a summer program they will need to return it once their summer program is over. Please make sure the student name and ID is clearly marked on both the laptop and charger. They can be dropped off between 9am and 2pm Monday through Friday at the Main Office.

Asha-Jyothi 5K flyer

Sign up for the Asha-Jyothi 5K!

The annual Asha-Jyothi 5K will be held on Sunday, September 17. The Asha-Jyothi Foundation has generously supported our school's Inspiration Studio, and will donate funds to Rocky Run for every person who selects Rocky Run when they register! Summer Math Support

For students taking Math 7 Honors and Algebra I, Rocky Run teachers have created sites to help students prepare for the courses. Use of these sites is completely optional. Please note that students must be logged in to their FCPS Google account to access these sites.
