Kiss and Ride Procedures
Herndon Middle School Administration would like to provide you with a few reminders and “best practices” for using HMS Kiss and Ride. In order to ensure a smooth start to the day as well as ensure the safety of all students, here are some helpful reminders for our morning drop off procedures:
 All student drop offs must occur at the designated Kiss and Ride area located in the back of the school building. Please do not drop students off at the front of the building, along Locust Street, or in the front staff parking lot. Dropping students off outside of the designated Kiss and Ride location is a hazard to student safety.
- When entering on 5th Street, please drive straight back to the Kiss and Ride area located in the back of the building.
- Remain in the line of cars proceeding to the Kiss and Ride drop off point. Do not drop students off until you have reached the drop off point. Dropping students off outside of this zone is a hazard to student safety.
- When exiting the HMS school campus and re-entering Locust Street traffic, please turn right only. This allows for a smooth traffic flow for everyone.
- When possible, arrive a few minutes early. High congestion time is typically from 7:10-7:25.
Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications Available
According to Centers for Disease Control, eating breakfast at school is associated with better attendance rates, fewer missed school days, and better test scores. Students who qualify for Free and Reduced-Price meals receive breakfast and lunch at school at no cost.
Families in FCPS that are earning less than 185% of the poverty level can receive meals for their students at no cost. Families should complete the application before the start of each school year. Approved applications may also qualify students for additional benefits. Apply on the Free and Reduced-Price Meals webpage.
Summer meals will continue to be available at select locations through Friday, August 11. Visit the Summer Meals webpage for more information on locations, dates, and times.
Solicitudes para Comidas Gratuitas y a Precio Reducido Están Disponibles

What is ParentVUE and How to Register
Access your student’s attendance records, grades, and assignments at any time with SIS ParentVUE. Caregivers should receive an activation code when they register their child.
Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. Access SIS ParentVUE by using an app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android devices.

Qué es ParentVUE y Cómo Puede Registrarse
Acceda a los registros de asistencia, calificaciones y tareas de su estudiante en cualquier momento con SIS ParentVUE. Los cuidadores deben recibir un código de activación cuando registre a su hijo/a.

SIS ParentVUE Online Verification/Update
FCPS is offering a new online option where parents can easily update their child’s information! The Online Verification Update packet or OVU will allow parents to review and update phone numbers, emergency contacts and health information (such as health conditions and immunizations) for students in grades PS/HS and Kindergarten through 12th grade. Parents can choose to return hardcopies or use their SIS ParentVUE account to submit changes.

Moving Over the Summer?
If your student will not be returning to Herndon MS for the 2023-2024 school year, please complete the Student’s Intention for the Next School Year form. You can email the completed and signed form to Ms. Fry, Herndon MS Registrar, at smfry@fcps.edu.
2023-24 Epinephrine and Asthma Medication Forms
Will your student have Epinephrine or Asthma medication in the HMS Clinic for the 2023-24 school year?
Be sure to bring the following to the clinic (drop off dates will be announced at a later date. Stay tuned):
- Complete the FCPS Medication Authorization forms General Registration Forms | Fairfax County Public Schools (fcps.edu). Please ensure to have your health care provider complete the updated FCPS Authorization for Anaphylaxis Action Plan (SS/SE-64) dated 05/2023 for epinephrine or the FCPS Authorization for Virginia Asthma Action Plan (SS/SE-65) dated 07/2022 for asthma rescue medication. We no longer accept the old version of Inhaler Authorization form or Epinephrine Authorization form.
- Parents will need to provide the school with properly labeled containers (your pharmacist will usually provide an extra container if you request it). Only a 30-day supply of medication should be brought into school at a time.

The Code of Virginia requires all students to be immunized against certain communicable diseases prior to entrance into Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).
ACTION REQUESTED: Please provide immunization documents to Ms. Fry, Herndon MS Registrar, at smfry@fcps.edu, before the start of the school year.
