Dear Bucknell Families,
We hope that you and your families are in good health and high spirits. As the new school year approaches, we are excited to welcome all of our students and families back to Bucknell Elementary School. Our staff have been working diligently over the summer to prepare for a safe and successful return to school.
We have many events before the start of the school year to welcome families. The purpose of each of the events is listed below. Please read the entire newsletter for more information.
Kindergarten Playdate - August 14 - 4:00pm - 5:00pm
- Welcome new families to Bucknell
- Families and students meet Kindergarten teachers
- Build community amongst the rising Kindergarten students and families
Welcome Walks - August 16 - 4:00pm - 6:00pm
- Welcome all families to the new school year
- Families are personally introduced to their child's teacher and and other Bucknell staff at their homes
- Families have an opportunity to talk one on one with their child's teacher and Bucknell staff
Back 2 Bucknell - August 17 - 4:00pm - 6:30pm
*specific schedule detailed in newsletter below
- Celebrate the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year
- Build community by connecting staff, students and families in an informal setting
- Back to School Night presentations provide important information about the new school year, to include grade level curriculum overview and a Year-at-a-Glance overview
- Back to School Night presentations are in a group setting with grade level teachers and families of students in that grade level
Family Conferences - End of September - Specific Date/Time Determined by Family and Teacher
- One on One conversation with teacher and families about the student's adjustment to school and progress in their academics. Teachers will share the beginning of the year reading and math assessment data.
- Teachers will review Back 2 Bucknell information for families
- Families will be able to choose day, time, and mode of conversation (phone, in-person, or virtual)

Kindergarten Playdate - August 14
Rising Kindergarten students and families will get to connect and play, as well as meet the Kindergarten teachers. Join us on Monday, August 14th from 4pm - 5pm at the Bucknell Playground. We look forward to seeing you there!

Welcome Walks - August 16
We are excited to continue our annual tradition of Welcome Walks! Your child’s new teacher will be “walking” to greet you and your child outside of your home. This event will be Wednesday, August 17th from 4pm - 6pm. Please expect an email from your child's teacher during the week of August 14th with more information.

Back 2 Bucknell - August 17
On August 17th from 4pm - 6:30pm we will welcome students and families into Bucknell to meet their child's teacher, see their new classroom, drop off school supplies (if needed) and listen to updates about the new school year. Families will also hear Back to School presentations, which is information regarding the curriculum and daily life of Bucknell. After visiting the classroom, families will be invited outside for FREE food, DJ, games, and an opportunity to celebrate the beginning of the school year.

Student Laptop/iPad Return
Did you check out a device for summer learning? We are so glad you’ve been able to continue your learning! As summer is winding down, we need to prepare our devices for the 23-24 school year.
Please return your device to Bucknell no later than Friday, August 11. If your student is attending a summer program, their device will be collected at the conclusion of the program. All other students with devices will please need to drop off the device at Bucknell by August 11. The office is open between 9:00am – 12:00pm for device drop off.

FREE Breakfast & Lunch for Kids - 18 Years Old and Younger!
We are excited to announce that Bucknell Elementary School will host FREE breakfast and FREE lunch for students ages 18 and younger. Breakfast will be 9am - 10am and Lunch will be 12pm - 1pm. Please read below for more information.
- Families will enter through Door 5 (the cafeteria)
- Families will go through the serving line to accept meals.
- All meals must be eaten on site. Families cannot walk out with meals.
- Mealtimes are 9-10am (Breakfast) 12-1pm (Lunch).
- Students are only allowed 1 meal per child.
- Meals are only for students, not for adults. If Adults want meals, they must go to a Credit Recovery site
- Families can not ask for Breakfast AND Lunch during meal service. If they want breakfast, they must come from 9-10am. If they want lunch, they must come from 12-1pm.

Family Engagement Survey
Our Bucknell ES Equity Team has created a short survey to get feedback on the ways that our staff engage with our families. We would love to get your input. It will address what we're doing well as a school and our opportunities for growth.
