Good Evening, Glasgow Families!

In just a few weeks, we will be welcoming your students to their first day of the 2023-24 school year at Glasgow Middle School! Our big kickoff for staff will be on August 11th and we will spend the following week training and collaborating with staff to ensure we provide a safe and welcoming learning environment for all students to grow and thrive.

We hope that you will join us for our Open House for ALL students and their families on Wednesday, August 16th from (9-11AM) & (1-3PM)  when students can pick up their schedules and find their classrooms. Our Student Services staff, Administrative team and Specialist will be in attendance at the Open House, you will have the opportunity to meet all teachers and staff at Back to School Night on September 13th from 6-8PM.

This summer I engaged in my own professional development by attending the VAESP Conference in Virginia Beach for K-8 schools and also the NAESP Conference at the National Harbor for K-8 schools. See the picture below. It’s always important to continue to grow in our field and gain new insights. Also, our school librarians wanted to share a reading list for students: https://sites.google.com/fcpsschools.net/glasgowsummerreading/home

The image above are pictures from some of the classroom collaborations our school library did this past year! Please also spread the word for new families you may know to sign up for the News You Choose to get these newsletters that go out each weekend.

Humbly,

Victor L. Powell, Principal

First Day of School

As a reminder, the first day of the 2022-2023 school year is Monday, August 22. FCPS parents, students, and staff members are invited to share their favorite pictures or videos from the first day of school on social media using the hashtag #FirstDayFairfax.

Immunizations are required for public school entry and help keep students protected from serious diseases. Many children missed their well check-ups and their recommended childhood vaccinations in recent years because of disruptions from COVID-19. It is critical to catch up now to keep children healthy and ready for school.

While COVID-19 vaccinations are not required, many other immunizations are mandatory. Check with your children's health care providers now to make sure they are up to date on their immunizations.

Visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a schedule of clinics or schedule with your family’s health care provider. Appointments are required for most clinics.

Remember to request documentation of your child’s immunizations to provide to their school. More information on immunization requirements and the necessary documentation is available online.

FBLA logo

A few of our awesome Glasgow Middle School students participated in the FBLA in Atlanta this summer!  Our kids earned 4th in the nation within this competition. Our students practices a lot for their presentation, leading up to their trip and we are so proud of them! Ian, Javier and Nii were involved in a Video Game Challenge and Nisreen was involved in Exploring Business Issues. There were around 10,000 students there. The purpose of FBLA Middle Level Division is to provide, as an integral part of the instructional program, additional opportunities for students to explore, encounter, and experience positive leadership skills for their present lifestyles, as well as their future work.https://www.fbla-pbl.org/national-leadership-conference/
