Greetings, Irving Families!
We are excited to welcome Katie Shea, new 8th grade Assistant Principal! Ms. Shea is joining us from Poe Middle School where she was the Special Education Department Chair. Ms. Shea has a Master of Science in Educational Leadership Administration and Supervision and a Master of Science in Special Education both from George Mason University. Ms. Shea also has a Master of Science in Early Childhood Education and Special Education and a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies Early Childhood Development, both from Radford University.
Ms. Shea has extensive experience in Special Education as a teacher and Crisis Resource Teacher, she has worked at Project Momentum schools (Title 1), has chaired MTSS and SIIP committees, and is trained in several crisis response programs. She has worked with students from Pre-K through middle school during her time in Fairfax County. Ms. Shea will be supervising our Special Education Department.

Medication Authorization Forms
The FCPS medication authorization forms have been updated for school year 23-24 and older versions cannot be accepted. Please use the links below for the updated forms:

Forms for all medications must be completed by a physician with the exception of over the counter medications (OTCs) for headaches, muscle aches, menstrual cramps or orthodontic pain. OTCs must be in original, unopened containers upon receipt.

Sports are Coming to Middle School
We are excited to share that Cross Country will begin in September and is open to all FCPS middle school students! For more information, please click this link: Middle School Sports.
If your child is interested in participating in cross country this fall, please complete this Interest Google Form and be sure to have your child get a physical prior to the season starting in September. This physical form is required for all students who plan to participate in middle school sports.

Summer READ! Program for Rising 7th and 8th Graders
So far, 24 Irving rising 7th & 8th graders have read and reported 93 titles this summer. These 24 students are eligible for the gift card giveaway! If you’d like to get involved in this program, read the instructions below!!)
Irving Middle School invites you to participate in its Summer READ! Program. Students have the choice to read from among 24 different options on a bingo-type card. When students complete one of the reading options in a square, they use this Google form to report to Irving what they read. For each square that a student completes, one entry will be made for a drawing for one of four $25 Barnes & Noble gift cards. Students may enter up to 24 times, by reading all 24 of the options listed on the bingo card. Students may only win 1 gift card. The winners will be announced and the prizes awarded at Irving next school year. A link to both the bingo card and the Google Form will remain on the Irving school website throughout the summer.
