Hats Off Grads!

Oak View was excited to celebrate the graduates of Class of 2023 at Woodson and Robinson in early June! Many Oak View alum had the opportunity to walk the halls again and visit their elementary school ahead of their graduation. Our students and teachers loved cheering them on and we wish them the very best in their next chapters of life!

Bursting with Summer Color

Oak View is bursting with summer color in our new Pollinator Meadow! If you have not had the chance to swing by, we invite you to come and check it out. We again thank Fairfax County and Project R3! The Revitalize, Restore, Replant! (R3) program transforms existing stormwater facilities (like bioretention areas, ponds, and yard inlets) or dry areas of need around storm drain inlets on FCPS campuses into outdoor classrooms. At no cost to schools, county ecologists introduce students to stormwater and watershed ecosystem management and lead a hands-on native plant installation. Fairfax County provides native plants, plant ID signs, and all other necessary materials for this event.

Fairfax County Public Library - LEAP

FCPS is partnering with Fairfax County Public Libraries to provide Library Equity Access Passes (LEAP) to any FCPS student.

WHAT IS LEAP?

All students (PreK-12) in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) have LEAP accounts at FCPL. These public library virtual accounts allow students to check out up to three items at a time for six weeks each (no renewals).

WHY IS LEAP AWESOME?

  • A student only needs their name, not a physical library card, to check out materials.
  • LEAP accounts never charge fines or fees.
  • A student can have a LEAP account as well as a standard library account (application online and in library branches). Standard accounts allow users to place holds on materials and access FCPL digital resources such as eBooks and databases.

VDOE Learning Grants - Available to Families

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is now accepting applications from parents for tutoring microgrants for their children through the K-12 Learning Acceleration Grants program.

It provides $1,500 grants to parents of school-age children for tutoring in specific subjects. Children from homes with family incomes at 300% or less of the federal poverty level may qualify for $3,000 grants.

Available services include in-person, online, and hybrid tutoring provided one-on-one or in small group or large group settings. The first step in the process is to visit VDOE’s K-12 Learning Acceleration Grants page and create an application account.
