Dear Westbriar Families,

As we close out this school year, please be reminded that tomorrow, Friday, June 16th is a 2 hour early release day.  This mean we will be dismissing students starting at 2:05pm.  Thank you for taking note of this early dismissal time.

At this time each year, I share the staff members who will be moving on to other places for the upcoming school year.  Please join me in thanking the following staff members for their contributions to Westbriar.

Leaving FCPS

  • Karen Fuselier, thank you for your years of service at Westbriar.  You enriched our library program with lots of great ideas and activities.  We will miss you and wish you well on your next adventure.

Transfer to another FCPS school

  • Amanda Wajert, thank you for your leadership and service to our staff, students, and parent community.  Best to you on your new role, we know you will be a fantastic Reading Specialist.
  • April Isla, we are thankful you will be at a school closer to your home/family.  Thank you for your years of service and touching the many lives of our English Language Learners.
  • Tomoko Takase, thank you for your service to our students, in particular, those with specific learning needs.  Best wishes to you on your new position of music teacher.
  • Allie Koehler, thank you for your service at Westbriar and the lives of the children you impacted.  We wish you well at your new school.
  • Carey Payne, even though you joined our ESOL team a few months ago as a part time teacher for this school year only, we felt you have been with us much longer than that.  Thank you for jumping in so quickly as you worked with students and staff to support the varied needs of our students.

In addition to sharing Westbriar staff who will be leaving this year, I also want to share that Dr. Zuluaga, our Region 2 Assistant Superintendent will be retiring from FCPS at the end of this month.  We want to thank him for his leadership and support.  Below is his message to our school and parent community:

Message From Dr. Fabio E Zuluaga / R2 Assistant Superintendent

It is with bittersweet emotions that I am announcing my retirement from Fairfax County Public Schools effective July 1; my last day with the school division will be June 30.  I have been in education for 35 years: 10 years in Kansas City, MO, 11 years in Lexington, KY, and now 14 years in Fairfax. I feel like it is the right time for me to start a new chapter in my life. When I first came to the United States, I started out as a secondary science teacher in Kansas City, MO. I culminated my professional journey by being appointed an assistant superintendent in the best school district in the country: Fairfax. I have had incredible opportunities and gifts during my career, for which I am very grateful. Some of the most amazing gifts I have been given over the years have been the relationships I have been blessed to have with our faculty/staff, students, and families.
