LCES Updates 6/14/23: Staff Transitions, End of Year Lunch Changes, & Early Dismissal Reminder

Staff transitions for the 23-24 School Year.

Dear Lees Corner families,

As we celebrate our final week of the 2022-2023 school year, we are also reflecting, honoring, and marking the end of another year that has brought us new challenges and opportunities! We’ve come together as a community in countless ways and have demonstrated what it means to Grow Forward, Together!

Although bittersweet, some of our friends and colleagues will be taking root and blossoming with new opportunities in the next school year and beyond. Let’s acknowledge their accomplishments and celebrate what’s next for our school family members.

Retiring from FCPS:

  • Julie Brady is retiring after 28 years of teaching. She spent 18 years in second grade and 10 years in first grade. Julie has been a part of our LCES community for 7 years. We will miss her and hope that she will come back to visit! Julie plans to spend her time crocheting, reading, loving on her cat, trying new hobbies and FINALLY learning to cook.
  • Pam Curry has been a beloved kindergarten IA at LCES for 6 years. Prior to that she taught preschool for 24 years. Our Kindergarten team and students will certainly miss Pam’s nurturing care, and we will miss her knowledge of what our youngest learners need to be successful. Pam will be spending her time holding her new grandbaby, traveling with her twin sister and her family, and enjoying new experiences outside of school.

New and Exciting Opportunities:

  • Laura Tapper has been a part of the LCES community for the last 6 years. She takes great pride in knowing our students and their needs. She will be joining the Willow Springs Community as an assistant principal where we know she will establish impactful relationships with teachers, students, and families just as she has done here.
  • Amanda Irons started at LCES as an IA 12 years ago working with Brian Rothe. She then began teaching Special Education department and taught 4th and 2nd grades. We wish her all the best as she begins her new career as a librarian at Daniels Run. We know she will be an amazing librarian!
  • Kris Kang has been teaching art for 16 years and has been at LCES for 15. She is leaving us to teach ESOL at Katherine Johnson Middle School. As a former FCPS ESOL student herself, she hopes to support students socially and emotionally as well as academically. We have loved seeing our halls filled with beautiful student artwork. We know Kris is going to be a huge support for countless FCPS middle school students.
  • Claire Evangelista started her career in special education in 2005 at Rose Hill Elementary. LCES was lucky enough to wrangle her back to the world of education in 2018. Claire has shown amazing flexibility as everyday (and year) has looked different for her. She has always done her best to support her students and teammates. Claire will be spending her time enjoying watching her dog and boys continue to grow.
  • Kathryn Prioletti has been at LCES for 8 years and has taught both 2nd and 3rd grade. Kathryn has always had a passion for teaching students to read as well as meeting them where they are emotionally and behaviorally. Our loss is Greenbriar East’s win as Kathryn will be joining them in the fall as their new reading teacher.
  • Jennifer Urban has been at LCES for the last year providing speech and language services. She has developed wonderful relationships with her students, and they have all made progress. We with her all the best as she starts her new career at George Mason University.
  • Nandita Bose has been at LCES for 13 years. She has supported so many of our young learners. You can always find her lending a helping hand wherever needed. She will be working at Deer Park Elementary next year as a Preschool Autism Instructional Assistant.
  • Shafagat Safarova joined out LCES family in 2012. Since then, she has supported students and teachers in our CAT B program  Shafagat is always willing to step in to assist both students and teachers. She will be greatly missed as she transitions to a corporate job outside of Fairfax County.
  • Denise Wilmot is taking her teaching abroad. For the next 2 years, and possibly longer, she will be teaching at UNIS (United Nations International School Hanoi). She is moving overseas with her youngest daughter who will attend high school in a new country. We are so excited for her and her family as they begin this exciting journey.

Staff will be in the building through Friday. You may reach any of these terrific staff members via email. Staff members who are remaining in FCPS will continue to have the same email address at their new work locations.

Please stay tuned for future announcements introducing new staff members who are joining our Lees Corner family.
