Edison Academy Families,
It is hard to believe that we have completed another school year. Thank you for your support all year long.
Thank you to all of the students, teachers, families, and friends who attended our 2023-2023 Academy Awards Ceremony in May. We are proud to announce that Sharell Smith was our Edison High School Medal recipient, June James received our Academy Administrator Award, and our Edison Academy Student of the Year was Casey Laycock. A special thank you to our guest speaker and 2013 Edison Academy Student of the Year, Alex Foster, who shared inspiring words to our students. If you were unable to attend here are pictures from the ceremony. In addition, enjoy these pictures from the 2022-2023 school year.
We will continue to share important information and good news through these newsletters, our Edison Academy website, and social media platforms, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
Sincerely,
Monica Bentley, Academy Administrator

Congratulations to Joe Wolfe, Edison Academy Electrical Construction and Engineering teacher, and his students for completing the build and the testing of their e-bike project. Earlier in the year they received an Educate Fairfax grant in the amount of $1,200.
Congratulations to June James, HVAC and Auto Collision Level 1 student for being accepted into the Steamfitters 602 which required a rigorous application and selection process. Only 10% of approximately 1,000 applicants per year are selected from the DMV area. June had her official signing on Thursday, May 4th. June will be earning $45,000 a year right out of high school with her trade school fully paid for and she will also receive full medical benefits. June has plans to become an underwater welder in her future as well. Congratulations June and we look forward to seeing all that you will do after graduation.

Ms. Genie Williford, our Career Experience Specialist, will be retiring as of July 1st. Ms. Williford came to Fairfax County from North Carolina where she worked as a Marketing teacher. She then taught Marketing at Robinson Secondary School and Edison High School before joining us at Edison Academy. Genie is super supportive of our students, teachers, and staff. Over the years she has developed relationships with students, teachers, and staff that will continue even after she leaves Edison Academy.
Genie held the first Apprenticeship and Trades Fair in Fairfax County and she continued that for many years prior to the pandemic. She really helped start the youth apprenticeship program in FCPS by working with the state of Virginia and it is amazing to see what it has become. Genie helps students regularly with their resumes, interviewing, and securing apprenticeships, internships, and jobs. She is one of the first to volunteer to chaperone field trips. She is a team player, would do anything for anyone, and will be greatly missed by all.
We would like to thank Genie for all that she has done for Edison Academy and Fairfax County Public Schools over the last 24 years. We wish her the best in her retirement.
Congratulations to Mr. Rob Stringham for publishing another book, HVAC Basics: Skills, Tools, and Procedures. A comprehensive set of procedures to assist with a first year HVAC technician's basic skills development. Included is a list of tools and step by step instructions for each section that align with the HVAC Basics: Task List One competencies.
