Principals' Message

Happy Last Friday CES Community:

Well, that is a wrap to the 2022 - 2023 school year! CES had a wonderful year. Our students have done an amazing job this year and their individual progress illustrates all of their efforts. We are so proud of each and every one of them.

This week we focused on highlighting our 6th grade students that will be leaving us for middle school. The first event our students participated in was the signing of the CES Spirit Rock. The act of signing the CES Spirit Rock illustrates the idea of once an eagle always an eagle. Next, the 6th grade students had a celebration of their success at Dave and Busters. Fun was had by all and  lasting memories were made. Last night we held our 6th Grade Promotion Ceremony at Centreville High School. It was a wonderful evening highlighted by the original songs written by the students. Today, the students walked the CES halls one last time as a group and concluded the walk by ringing the school bell. The ringing of the bell signifies their final exit from CES. We will miss our 6th graders, but know they are ready and prepared to do amazing things as they move forward.

We hope everyone has a wonderful summer filled with rest, relaxation, and joy! This summer we will continue with our Summer Cookouts and Library Hours. We hope that many of you will engage with us on these four Tuesdays. Please see below for further details.

Have a positive summer!

Rachel, Jen, & Josh

Transition to Summer Tips

Change is hard – even when it comes to summer break. Some students may struggle with the sadness of leaving their friends, teachers, and school routine. Here are some tips to make this a smooth and fun transition:

  1. Keep a summer routine, as much as possible. This can be as simple as asking children to make their bed each morning before breakfast.
  2. Communicate the routine and summer schedule as much as possible. This helps children know what to expect and can alleviate anxiety of the unknown. Use a visual schedule for younger children.
  3. Make quiet time a part of your day. This can be reading time, coloring or even journaling.
  4. Make a small list of summer “must dos” as a family. The library is a great, cool spot to spend time over the summer. Taking walks (without electronics) is good for everyone!
