This is the Last Newsletter for this School Year!
The last day of school is this Friday, June 16. It is a 2hr. early release day. Students will be dismissed at 2:00 pm.

We are sad to say goodbye to a few of our staff members who are not returning next year. We thank them for their service and dedication to VRES and we wish them well as they open a new chapter in their lives.
Ann Ohr - Ms. Ohr has been promoted to a teaching position at McNair Elementary.
Esther Ok - Ms. Ok promoted to a teaching position at Union Mill.
Ashley Alcantar - Ms. Alcantar has decided to take some time off to be with her family.
Susie Doak - Ms. Doak has accepted a position at Daniels Run.
Jeanette Wolff - Ms. Wolff has accepted a position with Loundon County Public Schools.

Clinic Notice
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than 2:00 pm, student dismissal time, on the last day of school, June 16. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.
Report Cards
Report cards will go home with students on Friday, June 16, the last day of school. If your child will not be in school that day and you would like the report card mailed to you, please send in a self-addressed stamped envelope to your child's teacher. Thank you.
Yearbooks
Yearbooks were handed out to 6th graders yesterday. All other students will receive their yearbooks in the Wednesday folder today. There will be a limited supply of soft cover yearbooks for sale in the office on Thursday, June 15th and Friday, June 16th for $30 each. First come, first served. Exact change only. Checks can be made out to VRES PTA.
SOL Spring Score Preview
If your student took SOL tests this spring, you can view their scores in SIS ParentVUE now. Use a web browser to log into your SIS ParentVUE account: https://sisparent.fcps.edu. You will find spring SOL test performance levels and overall scores in the Test History section. You will also get an official score report in ParentVUE Documents by the end of July.

2023-2024 Class Placement Update
Thank you to all parents and guardians who shared information with Ms. Bumbrey regarding parent/guardian requests over the past month. Teachers and school staff have completed the fall class placements. Class placements will be shared during our annual Welcome Walk in August! Thank you for partnering with the school to set your child up for success!
Retirement Reception
Please join us for a retirement reception to honor Allison Sieber who will be retiring at the end of the school year.

Lost & Found
Don't forget to check the Lost & Found or ask your children to do so by the last day of school. There are a LOT of items in there which will be donated at the end of the school year!
Salad Bar
Food and Nutrition Services will not be offering the salad bar on Thursday, June 15 and Friday, June 16 (the last two days of the school year). The fruit and vegetable offerings will move back to the serving lines where they were placed prior to the salad bar. The lunch menus have been updated on our school website in Nutrislice.
Summer Reading 2023
Keep reading all summer! Use the links below to complete the bingo board by reading at least five books this summer and return it to Mrs. Siwert in the library when we come back to school in August. Everyone who turns in a bingo board will be able to choose a fun prize from the library prize basket. Bingo boards are also being sent home in this week’s Wednesday folders. Happy Reading!

VRES Book Drive
Virginia Run will be collecting new and gently used children's books from Tuesday, May 30 - Friday, June 9 for distribution in our school community. Book collection bins will be in the lobby. Please consider donating by collecting books you are no longer reading or ask your family, friends, and neighbors for books.
VRES Summer Bookmobile – FREE BOOKS!
On Wednesdays this summer, VRES staff will be in one of the Virginia Run neighborhoods with free books for students! See schedule below. All students and families are welcome to visit us in every neighborhood! Books are free and yours to keep!

Congratulations to the 2023-2024 PTA Executive Board
The 2023-2024 PTA Executive Board was elected on June 8. Thank you to those who are volunteering their time to make sure the PTA can continue to provide for Virginia Run Elementary. A special thank you to the outgoing board members as well. This was a great group to work with and we were excited to be able to give back to VRES through the various programs, social events, clubs and staff appreciation events. The PTA is an all volunteer group and appreciates all of the parent volunteers who helped make this year a success.

Virginia Run Elementary School Kindergarten Summer Playdates!
The Virginia Run Elementary School (VRES) PTA will be hosting two summer playdates at the VRES playground for all rising kindergartners and their families to meet other kindergartners before school starts.
First Playdate - Sunday, June 25 at 4:00 PM **Please RSVP to Kristen Cook at Kristendreed@gmail.com.
Second Playdate - Saturday, August 5 at 10:00 AM **Please RSVP to Jen Snitselaar at moxyrox33@yahoo.com.
Water and popsicles will be provided!
PE Summer Sports Camp
This 4-day camp will offer a variety of different sports and activities for students in all grades. This camp is open to all Virginia Run students in grades K-6.
Dates: Tuesday, June 27th - Friday, June 30th
Location: Virginia Run Elementary
Times: Morning session (9 am - 1pm) or Afternoon session (1:30 pm - 5:30 pm)
Cost: $115/student

Community Review of Elementary English Language Arts Basal Instructional Resources
Fairfax County Public Schools will adopt new Elementary School Language Arts Basal Instructional Resources for the 2024-2025 school year. A review committee composed of community members, administrators, and teachers will meet in July and August to review the instructional materials under consideration and community feedback. Public review of the recommended materials is part of the process for selecting new resources.
Elementary English Language Arts Basal Instructional Resources may be accessed in person and online July 1 to July 31. Digital materials for public review and comment will be available on the Elementary Language Arts Basal Resource Review website. Those reviewing instructional materials may complete an electronic comment sheet that will be available on the website during the review period.
Hard copies of instructional materials will be available for review at: Pimmit Hills Center, Room 207 7510 Lisle Avenue Falls Church, VA 22043
Materials may be reviewed at Pimmit Hills Center Monday - Thursday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. Visitors should enter through door #4 and check in at the main office or with the building coordinator on duty.
An open house with representatives from the Elementary Language Arts team will be held on July 25 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Pimmit Hills Center.
All community feedback will be shared with the review committee and with School Board members before the vote at the School Board regular meeting.
