Dear Woodburn Families,

Wow! What an amazing year we have had at Woodburn.  We have three core values here by which we live: 1) Fostering a caring culture  2) Providing strong tiered instruction that reaches students by name and need, and 3) Working collaboratively  This year, more than ever, we are proud of our work and focus on our values.

It is said that amazing things happen to students when communities support schools and schools focus on serving their community. This year was an example of that partnership and we are incredibly grateful for your support. The importance and impact of this work is not lost on us here at Woodburn.

We hope this summer brings you joy!

Together We Grow,

Katy and Elizabeth

Sidewalk

SLC Sidewalk Design

Our Student Leadership Council designed a portion of our sidewalk to bring joy to future Wildcats.  The design was created by Cinthia Velasquez Fuentes.  The theme is "Arts Integrated at Woodburn."  Cynthia writes, "It shows music notes "blooming."  I added the quarter notes in the air also to show that music can bloom anywhere."

Summer Communication

We will be taking a break from sending weekly newsletters over the summer.  You can expect to receive a few updates and invites to our summer playdates. We will resume weekly communication as we near the start of the school year.  Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions.

Message From Dr. Fabio E Zuluaga / Region 2 Assistant Superintendent

It is with bittersweet emotions that I am announcing my retirement from Fairfax County Public Schools effective July 1; my last day with the school division will be June 30.  I have been in education for 35 years: 10 years in Kansas City, MO, 11 years in Lexington, KY, and now 14 years in Fairfax. I feel like it is the right time for me to start a new chapter in my life. When I first came to the United States, I started out as a secondary science teacher in Kansas City, MO. I culminated my professional journey by being appointed an assistant superintendent in the best school district in the country: Fairfax. I have had incredible opportunities and gifts during my career, for which I am very grateful. Some of the most amazing gifts I have been given over the years have been the relationships I have been blessed to have with our faculty/staff, students, and families.

2023-2024 Band and Strings Program

We are already thinking about band and strings for next school year!  The linked document shares more information about our music program.  We hope your child might decide to stay with their current instrument or try something new! You can reach out to Ms. Davidson or Ms. Hoffman with questions.
