6th Grade Walk!
Dear CWES Families,
As we have reached the end of another incredible academic year, we wanted to take a moment to extend our warmest wishes to each and every one of you for a fantastic summer break. It has been a year filled with growth, accomplishments, and countless memories that will stay with us for a lifetime.
This past week we were able to celebrate all week long with talent shows, class parties, our chorus concert, field day, and our 6th Grade promotion ceremony! These events wouldn't possible without the support of our school community.
Thank you for being an integral part of our school community. We are grateful for your partnership and look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts for years to come.
Wishing you and your family a restful and enjoyable summer break!

Keep your child’s literacy skills strong this summer by participating in some fun reading and writing activities. Help your child complete a summer Lexia bingo board. Return the board to their teacher at Canterbury Woods by September 8 for a small prize. These bingo boards will be sent home in Tuesday folders, so keep an eye out for them. Your child will receive a two-sided bingo board with their current grade and the next grade level. They can choose one side to get Bingo on or try some of each side! The bingo boards are also linked below.
We also encourage students to participate in the Fairfax County Public Library summer reading challenge. A librarian from the Kings Park Library will give a presentation to your child’s class on June 15 and the program begins June 16.
It is also very important to read to your child. Read books you loved at their age and books that are a little too hard for them to read on their own. Listening to audio books is also beneficial to build vocabulary and provide opportunities to discuss books.
Thanks for supporting our summer reading adventures!

There’s an easy five-step process outlined for parents looking to register their child for kindergarten:
- Determine eligibility.
- Identify your local school.
- Gather documents.
- Fill out forms.
- Schedule an appointment. Please contact Amy Decatur, our Student Information Assistant, by email at aldecatur@fcps.edu or by phone at 703-764-5600 to set up an appointment
After the appointment at the school (the student and one caregiver must be present), the student will be ready for orientation, Bridge to Kindergarten, or any other introductory events each school may host. Read more about the registration process.
The FCPS Office of Intervention and Prevention Services will offer virtual Mental Wellness Consultations from June 26 to August 4. Any FCPS parent or secondary student can schedule a 45-minute consultation with a school psychologist or school social worker by phone or videoconference. Consultations will be offered in two ways:
- Directly to parents of students in any grade level. This consultation provides an opportunity for parents to receive guidance on how to support their child’s social, emotional, and academic success. Information about community resources will also be provided.
- Directly to students in middle or high school. This consultation provides an opportunity for middle and high school students to receive guidance and support for concerns related to anxiety, mood, behavior, peer or family interactions, or school transitions and changes. Strategies and tools can also be provided to address academic challenges such as organization and time management.
All parents and secondary students are encouraged to take advantage of this service. Consultations can be requested online or by calling 703-503-2520 and leaving a message.
