Little Run News: 6/9/23

A Week Full of Fun!

Field Day

On Monday we had the perfect weather for field day! The kids had a blast participating in all the stations and enjoying popcorn and a movie in their classrooms.  Thank you so much to Mrs. Brown for her thoughtful planning to ensure that all of our kids had a fantastic fun filled day with activity, sportsmanship, fun and treats!

Celebration

On Wednesday and Thursday this week our PAC, preschoolers and Kindergarten classes celebrated the end of another successful year with fun, food and family.

Play

On Thursday, our Kindergarten classes performed the Bugz Play! Our entire school community was overwhelmed with cuteness as our Kindergartner buggies sang and danced their hearts out! Shout out to Ms. Schuetz and Ms. Hodge for all of their hard work in making this play possible!

Robert Landon

I’m Robert Landon, and I’m originally from Northeastern Pennsylvania. I am a graduate of Penn State University (BA) and Bloomsburg University (MS). I live in Springfield with my wife, son, and dog. I enjoy reading, biking, singing with my church group, working out, walking my dog, and spending time with family. Throughout my 28 year career in education, I have served students in a variety of positions including: special education teacher at all levels, high school special education department chair, adult high school social studies teacher, adult high school Assistant Administrator, and high school assessment coach. I look forward to joining the Little Run team in 2023/2034 as a special education teacher supporting the 6th grade team!

Taryn Riblett

My name is Taryn Riblett, and I am excited to meet the students, families, and staff at Little Run Elementary.  I am finishing my Master's in Teaching (Special Education) at the University of Virginia, and I am looking forward to joining the Special Education team at Little Run in the 2023-2024 school year. I previously taught in an early childhood education setting, and I love supporting students as they learn to solve problems and grow as individuals and members of a community. I live in Falls Church with my two daughters, and I enjoy reading, cooking, and traveling.

I am so excited to be joining the Little Run family! I was born and raised in Alexandria, Va. I attended Marymount University, where I received my degree in child psychology with an emphasis in early childhood education. I have taught grades kindergarten through third, both as a classroom teacher and as an ESOL specialist. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my two children and two Beagles. I love to travel and the beach is one of my favorite places.

🥗 Don't forget your student's Lunch Balance!

It’s a busy time of year, and we know there are many priorities on families’ plates. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important for families to remember to check their students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.

Families who earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals. However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2023-24 school year will be available near the end of August.

If families have a current balance and think they may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2022-23 school year. Get more information about free and reduced-price lunch.

If you are interested in helping to relieve lunch debt for families currently going through the FRM application process, please donate to Educate Fairfax.

Kindergarten Registration

If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2023, please visit this website and submit the form.

If any of your neighbors have children who will be eligible for Kindergarten, please share this information with them, as we are especially interested in reaching those Little Run families who do not have children currently attending our school.

Please email any questions to our Registrar, Victoria Reyes, at vvreyes@fcps.edu

FCPS recognizes that parents are their children’s first teachers. Resources on the School Readiness and Transition to Kindergarten webpage provide parents with ways to support their children to help ensure a successful transition to kindergarten.

Summer Office Hours

Starting on June 20th, Little Run's office hours will be from 9 am- 1 pm Monday-Friday.

Mental Wellness Summer Supports

The FCPS Office of Intervention and Prevention Services will offer virtual Mental Wellness Consultations from June 26 to August 4. Any FCPS parent or secondary student can schedule a 45-minute consultation with a school psychologist or school social worker by phone or videoconference. Consultations will be offered in two ways:

  • Directly to parents of students in any grade level. This consultation provides an opportunity for parents to receive guidance on how to support their child’s social, emotional, and academic success. Information about community resources will also be provided.
  • Directly to students in middle or high school. This consultation provides an opportunity for middle and high school students to receive guidance and support for concerns related to anxiety, mood, behavior, peer or family interactions, or school transitions and changes. Strategies and tools can also be provided to address academic challenges such as organization and time management.

All parents and secondary students are encouraged to take advantage of this service. Consultations can be requested online or by calling 703-503-2520 and leaving a message.
