Thank you to Ms. Campbell and Mr. Zimmerman for two amazing concerts on Tuesday. If you missed it and want to enjoy it, here you go!
We have two amazing Instructional Assistants who are retiring! Congratulations to Janet Bennett and Kathy Montes! Thank you for all of your dedication and work over the years. The following staff members are also leaving due to moves and pursuing other opportunities outside of FCPS: Mrs. Dillon, Mr. Smith, Mrs. Gerges, and Ms. Cordova. Mrs. Hapangama is taking a year off to spend time with her family. Dr. Mitchell has also decided to step out of the Assistant Principal position to be more available to spend time with her twins. She will be returning to Stenwood, but in a different position. We are in the final stages of the hiring process for our new assistant principal.
Next week, our beloved tradition of the in person Variety Show will be back! The Variety Show is Thursday at 9:00am. If you are unable to join us in person, here is the link to watch it live. If you would like to watch the 6th Grade Promotion Ceremony, here is a link to watch it live, it will begin at 10:30am on Friday.
If you are here for class parties, or other end of the year events, please stop by the Lost and Found to claim any of your children’s items. All items will be donated after the last day of school.

Library News
 |
|
Ms. Cole reports that we had over 27,000 books checked out this year! That is amazing and it is true that Stingers are Readers! However, all good things must come to an end, and Ms. Cole needs all library books returned as soon as possible. If you are unsure if your student has library books checked out, your student can log into Destiny Discover through Schoology and check their account. You may also check with Ms. Cole (nhcole@fcps.edu). |
If you can’t find your library books, then you can pay for them via exact change or a check made payable to Stenwood ES. Please send the payment to the library. Thank you for supporting the library and encouraging your students to read.

2023 - 24 Kindergarten Registration
Our Kindergarten registration for the 2023-2024 school year is now open. Please use the online portal to submit your initial information and our registrar, Mrs. Hunt, will follow up with you. |
|
 |
If you have a child at home who will be five by September 30th, please register now. If you have any neighbors with rising kindergartners, please send this information to them, as well.
Similar to reading, writing and math, practicing our Portrait of a Graduate (POG) skills doesn't have to stop because it's summer. Visiting family? Ask some of these questions:
- How did our family communicate together?
- Did you feel like you were heard? How?
- How would you rate your active listening skills? Why?
Playing at the pool or a board game?
- How were you a collaborator today?
- How did you encourage your teammates?
- How did you help find a solution to a problem?
Setting a summer goal for yourself? Or want to help your community?
- What mistake(s) have you made? What did you learn from them?
- When did you show true friendship by being a friend that makes others feel good and by choosing friends that do the same? How?
Asking your child the simple question, what POG skill did you use today? Give an example, is a quick and easy way to help them grow as Portraits of a Graduate, be prepared for next school year and help them recognize that these skills are important inside and outside of school.
