Dear Mantua Families,
We are so excited to participate in all of the events that the end of the school year brings. We had our Grad Walk today. Our former Mantua students, set to graduate this year, walked the halls as they were cheered on by our current students. It is hard to imagine they were ever the littlest children walking our halls. Speaking of our young students, last week’s Kindergarten Concert was a special event! The entire class memorized their lyrics and sang them to popular songs while we cheered. Our gym was filled with joy and few happy tears. We are so proud of our students!
Our 6th graders are squeezing in every last bit of fun as elementary students. Last week, they traveled to Gettysburg, PA, to visit and learn about the pivotal battle during the Civil War. We also held our 6th-grade assembly on the Power of Words. Students engaged in critical thinking around the intent and impact of our words and behaviors. They reflected on ways to refrain from hurtful words and address situations as they occur. I am very proud of their thoughtful participation.
Our students are VERY excited about Field Days, happening tomorrow and Wednesday of this week! Our Field Day leaders have provided instructions to ensure an enjoyable and safe event. Please take a minute to read through the instructions found below, and be sure to equip your student correctly for their Field Day activities.
We want to invite you to our community goodbye celebration for Amy Alley. This event is open to staff, community, and students and will be held on June 12 from 4:30-5:30 in the Library.
We anticipate that yearbooks will be distributed the week of June 12-16. We have details below if you would still like to order a yearbook!
We’ve included some pictures of our recent student activities. Have a fabulous week!
Take good care,
Linda Shannon, Principal

Educate Fairfax partners with Mantua STEAM Lab
Mantua extends thanks to Educate Fairfax for their support in the purchase of supplies for the STEAM lab this year. From building geometric sculptures to testing wind-powered sail cars to learning the physics of bridge construction, the materials provided by Educate Fairfax took students’ hands-on learning to new levels. Students have been able to develop their Portrait of a Graduate skills as communicators, collaborators, and creative and critical thinkers. You can learn more about Educate Fairfax here.
Staff and Community Goodbye Celebration for Amy Alley
Amy Alley has served with skill, commitment, and care as Assistant Principal at Mantua for the past 11 years. As difficult as it is to say goodbye, we celebrate with her in her new role as Assistant Principal at Poplar Tree Elementary School, beginning with the academic year 2023-2024. Ms. Alley has been such an integral part of the Mantua community in her time here. We want to recognize and honor Amy at a goodbye celebration on June 12, from 4:30-5:30 PM. This event is open to all Mantua staff, students, and community members. Please join us as we farewell Amy to her next position in FCPS.
Sixth Grade Promotion Information
The sixth-grade promotion ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 15th, at Woodson High School. Buses will transport students at 9:30 AM, with the ceremony taking place from 10-11 AM. Buses will return students to Mantua at approximately 11:30 AM. This will allow time for families to take pictures at Woodson at the ceremony's conclusion. The 6th-grade teachers are planning class party celebrations; please check with your student’s teacher for details on this and ways you can contribute. As Woodson is a large venue, there are no restrictions on the number of visitors per student; friends and family are welcome!
Laptop Return
Students are schedule to return their laptops over the course of the next two weeks. Please be sure to send in the laptop and charger in on the corresponding day.

 |
|
It is never too late to thank a staff member! The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees at Mantua Elementary. Thank you to the families who completed FCPS CARES for our staff each week. Receiving your recognition means the world to us! |
