Rocking Roadrunner ⭐ Congratulations Ms. Pablo-Hayes🎉
Dear GBE Families,
The end of the school year is nearly here! I want to thank each of you for an incredible school year at GBE. Our students have made remarkable progress. Your ongoing collaboration with our staff has made all the difference in making this year a success! It has been an honor seeing your children grow as readers, mathematicians, scientists, and all around amazing students!
We launched many of our school community events this year and we are already making plans for another exciting school year in 2023-2024 in partnership with the PTA bringing us together as #OneGBE! I want to share my sincere gratitude for our PTA as they continue to support our GBE school community. Thank you!
I am very proud of our chorus and band students for their performances this spring and look forward to our strings concert on Thursday at Rocky Run Middle School. We also are excited to celebrate our Sixth Grade Promotion next week! We were able to cheer on former GBE students during this week’s Grad Walks. Congratulations to all of our families celebrating this milestone and I look forward to celebrating our current Roadrunners during their Grad Walk at GBE in the future! Have an amazing summer with your friends and family!
Sincerely,
Dave Pietzman, NBCT

Atentamente,
Dave Pietzman, NBCT
Importante
Dave Pietzman, NBCT
A letter from Ms. Showker
Roadrunner Community,
I will be leaving my position as an Assistant Principal here at Greenbriar East Elementary (GBE) at the end of this school year (2022-2023). Prior to taking the next steps in my career journey, I wanted to take a moment to share my heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to partner with families and serve as a leader with our school team over the past three years. You welcomed me with open arms in March 2020, and I have continued to feel that warmth during my tenure at GBE. Collectively leading this school with the administrative team, staff, students, and community I have learned so much from each of you. I enjoyed collaborating with you to plan school events, build school and community partnerships, and most importantly support our students to guarantee that every child’s needs were met, and they had a successful school experience. Our accomplishments have set the stage for continued positive impact for our learners.
Again, my time as an assistant principal at GBE has been a valuable professional experience that I will carry with me throughout my career journey, and I have you to thank for that. I prefer to think of the closing of this chapter for me as “see you later” instead of “goodbye”.
All the best and take care,
Amy Showker
On behalf of the entire GBE school community, we want to thank Ms. Showker for all her leadership over the last three years! She will be transitioning into a leadership position in the Preschool Office next school year and she will make such a positive impact throughout FCPS. She has always been there to support our families, staff, and students. We wish her the best on her next chapter and we will always remember her positive impact at GBE!

Hey GBE parents! I am sure you are picking up on all the excited vibes from your students about the Boosterthon FUN RUN thisFriday. We are reaching out as we need volunteers for the actual event. You get to help out and cheer your kids and their classmates on. Stay for just their grade or for all the runs. We need about 10 volunteers per grade. They will be helping by either marking out down the laps as the kids come through or with filling water bottles as needed. Please reach out to Patrick at programs@gbepta.org to sign up. The event schedule is below. We look forward to seeing you and ending this year with a fun day.
Kindergarten and 1st Grade - 9:45-10:45
6th Grade - 11:30-12;30
2nd and 3rd Grade - 12:45-1:45
4th and 5th Grade 2-3
Celebrate the remarkable achievements of our brilliant 6th graders on June 15th at 10:00 AM! Due to space constraints, we are allotting two guest seats per 6th grade student. We are excited to announce that we have a Zoom link for any additional family members to view the 6th Grade Promotion ceremony as we gather to honor our extraordinary students and bid them farewell on their journey to middle school in our gym. Please email Mr. Pietzman at djpietzman@fcps.edu to request additional guest seats for the gym. More information will be provided early next week through E-Notify for 6th grade families.
Don’t Forget to Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance!
It’s a busy time of year, and we know there are many priorities on families’ plates. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important for families to remember to check their students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.
Families who earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals. However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2023-24 school year will be available near the end of August.
If families have a current balance and think they may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2022-23 school year. Get more information about free and reduced-price lunch.
If you are interested in helping to relieve lunch debt for families currently going through the FRM application process, please donate to Educate Fairfax.
The deadline to place orders for the 2023-2024 School Year is August 2, 2023
State Student Assessment Summary Reports
At the May 25 School Board meeting, Dr. Reid presented information on a new Virginia Department of Education report called Virginia’s Visualization and Analytics Solution (VVAAS) Student Assessment Summary.
Virginia school divisions will be distributing a report to parents showing their student’s past Standards of Learning (SOL) testing data. Reports will be provided, through SIS ParentVUE or by mail, for any student who has an SOL testing history in the state of Virginia as of Spring 2022.
In addition to showing a student’s performance on SOL tests over time, it also shows how that performance compares to other Virginia students who took the same test. This report, along with a companion letter, will be available mid-June.
FCPS uses various data sources to determine student growth and success. The Student Assessment Summary Report is just one piece of information in the larger picture of student assessment in FCPS. Learn more about what to expect regarding assessment reporting practices and timelines.

Important Reminders
Greenbriar East uses PickUp Patrol for parents to report absences, late arrivals, and early pick-ups.
GBE values PickUp Patrol as it ensures a safe dismissal for all students based on the child's default plan. Please use the link here.
To update your child's default plan to "bus rider", "kiss and ride", or "walker," simply log in and select a dismissal option. Then hit submit and that’s it! Your child's teacher and the main office will be notified. Updating your child's default plan is a one-time action. Use PickUp Patrol regularly to report a plan change, absence, late arrival, or early pick-up. A default plan is NEEDED for all students.
ALL PLAN CHANGES MUST BE SUBMITTED BY 2:15 P.M.
Please contact our main office if you do not have an active account and require a new welcome activation email.
