Congratulations to our Amazing 6th grade Battle of the Books (BOB) Team! Battle Of the Books is a competitive book trivia tournament and our school was well represented!
We competed against Newington Forest Elementary on Wednesday, May 31st and our students really showed their knowledge and skill! Special thanks to Mrs. Hall for leading, coaching, and hosting our Battle of the Books team!
End of Year Laptop Collection

With the end of the year coming, laptops need to be collected, inventoried and updated to prepare for the 23-24 school year. Laptops / devices along with chargers will be collected on the following days. Please ensure all devices and chargers are returned to school on these days. We will not be collecting sleeves and families are welcome to keep them.

2022-2023 Yearbooks
The 2022 â 2023 Halley Yearbooks have arrived!
A limited number of extra yearbooks will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis in the main office for $22. Cash Only. The sale will begin Friday, June 9th. There will be no holds. Sales will only take place in person at school. All purchased yearbooks will be distributed during the last week of school.Â

End of Year
Medicine Pickup
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after dismissal on the last day of school will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

Registration for Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technologyâs Middle School Technology Institute (MSTI) also closes on Friday, June 9.

ST Math Summer Learning:
Supporting your Elementary Student
In collaboration with the FCPS Family Resource Center, the Math Office is offering a free webinar on Thursday, June 8, 2023, from 7-8 p.m. This webinar is designed to provide families of students currently in grades K-6 with resources to continue their math learning over the summer utilizing ST Math. During this session participants will learn how to log on and navigate the tool, discuss how students can work more independently, and how families can support their students.

 Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, in partnership with the National Park Service, presents an outdoor performance series for children. It features music, dance, puppetry, and storytelling performances recommended for children ages 2 and up.
The summer season runs for 7 weeks from mid-June through early August (Tuesdays through Saturdays). Each show begins at 10:30am and is approximately 45 â 60 minutes in length. Tickets are $12 and free for children under 2 years old.

Tutoring Grants Available
for Families
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is now accepting applications from parents for tutoring microgrants for their children through the K-12 Learning Acceleration Grants program.Â
The program was created to help Virginia families address the impact of the pandemic on student learning. It provides $1,500 grants to parents of school-age children for tutoring in specific subjects. Children from homes with family incomes at 300% or less of the federal poverty level may qualify for $3,000 grants.Â
Available services include in-person, online, and hybrid tutoring provided one-on-one or in small group or large group settings. The first step in the process is to visit VDOEâs K-12 Learning Acceleration Grants page and create an application account.

Gun Violence Awareness Day/Wear Orange The first Friday in June is recognized as National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Also known as Wear Orange Day, it was first organized by students in 2013. Information about gun violence prevention is available on our website.
19 - Juneteenth
Monday, June 19, is a holiday for FCPS employees. Schools and offices will be closed. Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 that word of the Emancipation Proclamation and the end of the Civil War finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, effectively marking the end of slavery in the United States. 28-29 - Eid al-Adha
Eid Mubarak to all who observe! Eid al-Adha, or the âFeast of Sacrifice,â is the second of two main holidays celebrated in Islam. Eid al-Adha signifies the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim, known as Abraham in Christianity and Judaism, to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as ordered by Allah. It focuses on sacrifice, the pilgrimage to Mecca and giving to those less fortunate. Learn more in this video from PBS Kids.
