Daniels Run ES- June 2, 2023

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Although the end of the school year is a couple weeks away, there is still engaging learning activities occurring.  Our first grade students design a park every year to wrap up our year-long science curriculum and many students include a playground in their park. They participated in a presentation from the Vice President of KABOOM, a nonprofit that builds kid-designed playgrounds in communities that need it. Students enjoyed learning about the design process and seeing some of the possibilities for their own design. I also enjoyed seeing some of our Kindergarten students design models of water slides in our Innovation Space.

Best of luck to the George Mason University baseball team as  the play in the NCAA tournament this weekend.  The GMU baseball team has volunteered their time this year at DRES, Go Patriots!

If you have any questions or concerns you can contact our main office at 703-279-8400 or contact me directly at cmsmith@fcps.edu

Enjoy the weekend,

Chris Smith

DRES Principal

End of Year Medication Notification

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than 1:45 p.m. on June 16, 2023, the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed.

It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room.

If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s) at the time of pickup.
