Field Day Fun 3

Fantastic Field Day

Last week, students at all grade levels had a blast during Field Day 2023! They were able to exercise their physical and mental muscles with so many fun and challenging activities while having fun with friends. We are certain that great memories were made by all, especially our 6th grade students and parents who enjoyed their last Field Day.

HIGH FIVE to Ms. Santino & Ms. Sutor for planning, implementing, and overseeing this incredible event for all students! HOORAH and HUGS to all of our parent volunteers who were willing to be out in the heat supervising students at all of the stations! Field Day would not have been possible without you. WAY to GO to all of our teachers and staff members for preparing our students to have fun and stay safe and for supervising and supporting in countless ways! #GrowingForwardTogether #ONELCESfamily

WordMasters Winners

WordMasters Winners

The WordMasters Challenge™ is an exercise in critical thinking that first encourages students to become familiar with a set of interesting new words, and then challenges them to use those words to complete analogies expressing various kinds of logical relationships.  Working to solve the analogies helps students learn to think both analytically and metaphorically.

Competing in the Blue Division of the WordMasters Challenge™, sixth grade student Cecilia Frank achieved an outstanding individual cumulative score of 58 out of 60 on this year’s challenge earning her Highest Honors this year.  Students who earned Highest Honors scored within the top 10-15 students in the country at the same grade level and division!  We are so proud of your accomplishment, Cecilia!

We also had many students scoring High Honors (top 2% in the country).  These students included sixth graders:  Sami Hagy, Camden Le, Ayden Martinez, Alli Modzelewski, Alexander Serrano, and Hannah Strenglein;  fifth graders: Azerin Azarsina, Gioia Chang, Viktor Gmerek, Ushna Rahman, Shashaank Thammishetti, Henry Wilhelm, and Ella Wilke; fourth graders:  Kate Li, Emma Mecham, and Suleiman Sultanbik; and third graders: Anika Bhattacharya, Clare Frank, Lexi Miller, and Paul Steuter.  Please join us in congratulating these hardworking students!

Don’t Forget to Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance

As we approach the end of the school year, it is important for families to remember to check their students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.

Families who earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals. However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2023-24 school year will be available near the end of August.

If families have a current balance and think they may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2022-23 school year. Get more information about free and reduced-price lunch.

If you are interested in helping to relieve lunch debt for families currently going through the FRM application process, please donate to Educate Fairfax.
