Principal Message

Dear Marshall Road Families,

We hope you enjoyed the beautiful weather over the long weekend.  We are looking forward to the final weeks of school.  There is much to learn and many activities for students, families and staff to enjoy.

We are very proud of our students who play an instrument and/or sing in the chorus.  These students have worked hard this year and are excited about their upcoming performances.  Families are invited to attend the Strings Concert on June 1, 6:30 pm and the Band & Chorus Concert on June 5, 6:30 pm.

The PTA is holding their Spring Carnival this Friday, 5:00-7:00 pm for students and families.  This evening will be filled with much fun.  We hope to see you there.

Have a great week.

Student Laptop Collection MRES 2023

We are required to collect each student’s FCPS-assigned laptop and charger before the end of the school year.  Student laptop collection will begin on Monday, June 5 and continue through June 9.  Students can ask teachers for their exact collection date.

The following information can also be found on the Marshall Road Website: https://marshallroades.fcps.edu/announcements/student-laptop-collection.

Students attending an FCPS approved summer program (ESY, SOAR, etc.) will RETURN their laptop with the rest of their class.  A different laptop will be assigned and sent to their summer site for use during their summer program.  Students should keep their laptop case to use next year.  Cases will not be collected.

Guidelines for the collection of laptops:

  • All students leaving FCPS are encouraged to download and transfer any Microsoft or Google documents they would like to keep.  Please follow the steps for "Downloading Your Data" from the FCPS Google Workspace Information Website.   ALL local files, bookmarks, and programs will be erased and they will no longer have access to their accounts after the last day of school.
  • All Students Returning to Marshall Road or another FCPS school are encouraged to "Turn on Chrome Sync" in Google to back up their bookmarks and upload any local Microsoft files to their Google Drive.  ALL local files and bookmarks must be backed up, as they will be erased during the reimaging process.  Students will continue to have access to most of their accounts over the summer.
  • Laptops must be returned clean and free of stickers, markings and other drawings, or the student will be charged a $50.00 cleaning fee.  Laptops can be cleaned with antibacterial or screen wipes.
  • Students should turn in their laptop AND charging cord. Please wrap charging cords neatly.  Students are financially responsible for lost items.
  • If a student lost their laptop or charging cord, they will need to purchase a new one through MySchoolBucks. The cost for the laptops is $481 and the cost for chargers is $28.
    • Go to www.MySchoolBucks.com to log in or establish an account.
    • Add your child using the name of the school they are attending and either their student ID or their birthdate.
    • You will receive a confirmation email that your account has been established.
    • Select the “School Store” tab and then “Browse All Items.”
    • Check the box by “[GROUP] Lost or Damaged…” and then select “View Details.”
    • Select and purchase the lost or damaged cable or laptop.
    • Students should bring a paper receipt from MySchoolBucks with them when they come to the laptop collection.
  • Please contact our tech specialist Reda Al Muressi, rmalmuressi@fcps.edu with any questions.

Thank you for helping to ensure your child’s equipment is returned in neat condition and in a timely manner!

Make Sure Your Child Is Up-to-Date on Vaccines

All students are required to be immunized against certain communicable diseases to attend school in Virginia.  It is important for all students to receive the required immunizations.

Please talk with your family healthcare provider about whether or not your children are up to date on their vaccines before the new school year begins.  Submit updated immunization records to your school as soon as possible.  Get more information on immunization requirements and the necessary documentation.

If your student (in grades K-5 only) is missing any required vaccines, a letter was sent home in last week’s YELLOW Tuesday folder.   If you have any questions, please contact our school registrar, Shelly Koshuta, at mmarcumkoshu@fcps.edu or call 703-937-1500.

Year-end Gifts for Teachers & Staff

The 2022-2023 school year is coming to a close.  For those that would like to give a gift of thanks to a teacher or staff member that has made a difference for their student or family this year, please use this GiftCrowd page to leave a note and gift.  The list includes all teachers and staff, so you can give to as many people as you’d like, all in one place.

Gift recipients will be able to use their gift towards one or more gift cards from a selection of over 400 top brands.  Participation is completely optional.  The receiver will see the names of people that contribute but will only see the grand total of money contributed.  The deadline to contribute is Sunday, June 11, 10:00 pm.

The PTA wants your Feedback

The PTA Board would love your feedback on our programs and activities this year, as well as your input on programs for next year.  Please take a few minutes to fill out this google form.
