News & Notes

Memorial Day Holiday – Monday, May 29th

Don’t forget that next Monday, May 29th, is the Memorial Day Holiday. School and the office will be CLOSED that day, and all staff members have the day off. SACC will also be closed.

For our military-connected families who may be remembering a family member or friend on this holiday, we thank you for your sacrifice and service.

Parent Input for Class Placement Next Year

A regular end-of-the-year task that staff work on is student groupings for class placements next year. All staff have input on groupings that can best support students within the school day. We also appreciate your input on how your child works and learns best. Below is our family input form. We will have it open for the month of May for families to give staff and administration input into considerations for next school year. As you click the link to the form, you will find directions that need to be considered as you complete the form.

PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST A TEACHER BY NAME OR GENDER. Additionally, please do NOT include negative information about past teachers, as the teachers read these forms when assisting with class assignments. If you do, please know it will be deleted.

Because of enrollment changes over the summer, class assignments will not be finalized until the middle of August 2023. Families will be contacted by the assigned teacher before attending Open House in August.

If you are interested in sharing this information, please complete the form below and return it by May 31, 2023.

Missing Something? Our Lost & Found Might Have It!

As you can see from the pictures above, our Lost & Found is overflowing, and we need your help to clear it out.

If your child is missing a coat, a jacket, a sweatshirt, or other apparel, please have them check the items on display in the bus lobby to see if it is there. Lost water bottles are in the cafeteria.

We will keep the items out through next Wednesday, May 31st. All items that remain after that date will be donated.

Thank you for your help in getting these lost items back to their owners.

Library books due June 2nd reminder

Library Books Due Next Friday!

All student library books are due on Friday, June 2nd. Please do your best to get them in by this date!

As always, the library does not have fees for overdue books; however, families are expected to pay the replacement cost for books that are lost or returned damaged.

Contact Mrs. Chozick, Librarian, at schozick@fcps.edu with questions.

farewell reception for Lane families leaving next Thursday, June 1, 4:30 pm

Farewell Reception for Families Leaving Lane – Thursday, June 1st, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.

Each year, we must say “Goodbye” to many families in our Lane community who are moving away to start exciting new adventures. This year, our Student Ambassadors have planned a special event to wish them well.

If your family will be leaving Lane, please plan to join us after school on Thursday, June 1st, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Lane Cafeteria for a Farewell Reception in your honor. Please RSVP to let us know how many people will be in your family group. This will help us ensure we have enough refreshments and other supplies. You can email our family liaison Melanie Crosby Hardy at macrosby@fcps.edu or you can fill out this Google form. Please respond by next Tuesday, May 30th.

We have enjoyed having you in our Lane community, and look forward to wishing you well in person on June 1st!

A note for 6th grade families: We know many of you will be leaving us as well as your child moves on to middle school. There will be a separate 6th Grade Promotion Ceremony for all of our 6th grade families on Monday, June 12th.

School Medication End-of-Year Pick-up

All medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school, 2:05 p.m. on June 16th, the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

If you have any questions, please contact our health room aide, Jovanna Velez at 703-924-7710.

Literacy Night Follow-Up and Feedback Request

Parent Resources

Student Testing Results Coming Soon

Starting in late May, caregivers will receive reports for assessments their students completed this spring. Not sure what assessments your student took this year? A list of tests by grade level is available. Scores will be delivered in SIS ParentVUE, by mail, or from the school or testing organization. Learn what to expect regarding assessment reporting practices and timelines.

Some families will also receive a Virginia’s Visualization and Analytics Solution (VVAAS) Student Assessment Summary report with historical Standards of Learning (SOL) test results from 2015-2022.

Go online or contact your student's school for additional information about student assessments.

How to Support Your Child’s Success

If you do not already have a SIS ParentVUE account, sign up now to monitor and support your child’s academic success! Through ParentVUE, you are able to view your student’s attendance, grades, and assignments at any time. You can also access special reports for your student like progress reports and assessment score reports.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. Access SIS ParentVUE by using an app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android devices.
