We did it!  We had a fantastic season of the GOTR at Halley! Many thanks to all the participants, families, and coaches who made the 5Ks last weekend, as well as the last 10 weeks a huge success!  Everyone played a part in helping our girls activate their limitless potential!

As they say in Girls on the Run – “Some heroes don't wear capes, they wear running shoes!”  Special Thank you to our amazing teacher coaches:

Ms. Hartmann, Ms. Park, and Mrs. Willis!

Student Testing Results

Coming Soon

Starting in late May, caregivers will receive reports for assessments their students completed this spring. Not sure what assessments your student took this year? A list of tests by grade level is available. Scores will be delivered in SIS ParentVUE, by mail, or from the school or testing organization. Learn what to expect regarding assessment reporting practices and timelines

Some families will also receive a Virginia’s Visualization and Analytics Solution (VVAAS) Student Assessment Summary report with historical Standards of Learning (SOL) test results from 2015-2022.

Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about student assessments or contact your student's school.

How to Support Your Child’s Success

If you do not already have a SIS ParentVUE account, sign up now to monitor and support your child’s academic success! Through ParentVUE, you are able to view your student’s attendance, grades, and assignments at any time. You can also access special reports for your student like progress reports and assessment score reports.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. Access SIS ParentVUE by using an app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android devices.

Need help creating a SIS ParentVue account? This video walks through the steps. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.

Update Your Contact Information in weCare@School

Within SIS ParentVUE, FCPS provides weCare@school (weCare), an emergency care information system. weCare helps manage contact and emergency medical information by allowing parents/caregivers to enter and update their children’s data online.

That contact information automatically enrolls parents/caregivers to receive critical updates from the district and their child’s school through the eNotify system. FCPS uses eNotify to communicate emergency, transportation, attendance, weather closing and delay, and essential outreach messages. Messages are sent by email, text, and occasionally by phone. Learn more about updating your emergency care information.

 A Note from the Library

All library books are due back to the library by Friday June 2nd. Because we have so many avid readers at Halley, we check-out books up until the very last day we are able!  Due to this, we ask for your help in making sure your student knows his/her responsibilities in locating and returning library books in a timely fashion. We will be printing overdue notices soon to help facilitate the searches. Thanks in advance for your help!

Health Room End of the Year Medication Information

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than 1:00 on the last day of school.  Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program.  Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school or online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services. If you have any questions, please contact your school health room aide, Taisha Thompson at 703-551-5710, or your school public health nurse, Andrea Madayag at asmadayag@fcps.edu.

"May Day May Day":

Mental Health Awareness Month

mental health awareness month

“May Day” is an emergency procedure word used internationally as a distress signal in voice-procedure radio communications. The new 9-8-8 number is a suicide and crisis lifeline, similar to 9-1-1 in a medical/safety emergency. One in six youth, aged 6-17, experience a mental health condition each year. Below are some activities to practice at home for mental wellness.

6 Mental Health Activities for Kids to Practice at Home

  • Create a Journal Younger students are better able to communicate their feelings and emotions freely in a creative way.
  • Practice Gratitude Exercises Have students write notes about what they are grateful for and place it a jar (label it thankful jar)
  • Engage in Breathing Exercises A couple deep breaths can reset not only your child’s mind Deep breathing exercises and meditation can increase focus and compassion
  • Try Music Therapy Music can be used to encourage movement and relaxation Use Stress Balls and other sensory toys

Middle School Athletics Coming This Fall

FCPS has designated funding in the budget for 2023-24 for middle school spring and fall athletic activities to support student well-being at no cost to students. Pending budget adoption, this will be the first time FCPS has offered middle school students a chance to participate in extracurricular sports programs.

Middle schools will start with cross country this fall. Track will follow in spring 2024.

Any middle school students who would like to participate in athletics will need to have a Virginia High School League (VHSL) pre-participation examination (PPE). The physical exam form must be completed and signed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant. Fairfax County public high schools will offer PPEs at a cost of $50 per student through June 17. Students who receive free or reduced meals are eligible to receive an exam at no cost. Learn more about PPE and middle school athletics
