Making the Transition to Middle School

Making the move from elementary school to middle school can be an exciting and unsettling time for a parent and child. In a recent episode of FCPS multilingual podcast, "En Pocas Palabras", learn ways to ease the transition including:

  • Understanding the developmental changes in your child.
  • Getting to know middle school culture.
  • Encouraging independence, but remaining available.
  • Offering emotional support to your child.
  • Reiterating your family values and expectations.
  • Staying involved in your child’s school.

Health Room Medication Pick Up by June 16th

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up by a parent or guardian no later than student dismissal time on the last day of schoolMedication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed per policy.  Medication cannot be sent home with your student.  If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by FCPS, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick-up the medication before student dismissal time on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program.  If you have any questions, please contact the Health Room.

 

School Library Books - Due June 2nd

This is a reminder to gather all school library books for return by June 2nd.   Students can log-in to their school library account (https://search.follettsoftware.com/metasearch/ui/103810) to view their checkouts.  Select the option: “Login using your account with - sign in with Google” (@fcpsschools.net), and then click on “My Stuff.” 

We hope that all students will be successful in searching for and returning library books. We understand that books are sometimes misplaced. Please contact our Librarian, Ms. Boyd, rlboyd@fcps.edu, if there are any books that are not located.  Thank you for your help!

 

INOVA Free School Physicals and Immunizations

Inova Cares Clinic for Children (ICCC) and Inova Partnership for Healthier Communities (PHC) are now scheduling appointments in June, July, and August to provide children ages 5 and up with FREE school physicals and immunizations to begin the 2023-24 School Year. This will take place at the Inova Cares Clinic for Children in Herndon, Manassas, and Falls Church.

PHC will be on site to screen and enroll qualifying families in Medicaid/FAMIS and connect them to an appropriate and affordable source of quality healthcare providers.

Field Day Volunteers Needed

Ravensworth Elementary will have Field Day from 9:00 am – 11:00 am on the following dates:

Tuesday, June 13th          (Grades Kindergarten – 2nd)

Wednesday, June 14th     (Grades 3rd – 6th),

We would like to request volunteers arrive at the school at 8:00 am, and remain until approximately 12:00 pm to help with equipment and review procedures.

Parent volunteers will be in charge of a station during the event (along with other volunteers).  Adults will remain at their station throughout Field Day, as students rotate through.  Students will remain at the activity for approximately 10 minutes before rotating.

Elementary Institute for The Arts

Students in all FCPS schools can enroll in the Elementary Institute for the Arts (EIFTA). EIFTA is a weekly arts enrichment program for students in rising 3rd through 6th grades and will be held during the month of July.  Students take classes in art, music, theatre, and dance every day.   Transportation is provided from around the county. Tuition assistance is available for students who qualify. Check out the website for more information or email eifta@fcps.edu.

 

The Dr. Lawrence Bussey Memorial Equity Award

The Minority Student Achievement Oversight Committee (MSAOC) is sponsoring an award to honor the legacy of Dr. Lawrence "Larry" Bussey by celebrating the efforts and impact of those who work to redress inequitable systems and practices in FCPS.  This award recognizes staff or community members who have demonstrated significant and impactful efforts to improve the educational experiences and outcomes of students from groups who are marginalized or underserved.

Any FCPS employee, student, or community member can nominate an individual or group for the award. All nomination materials must be submitted by June 15, 2023.  The winner will be recognized at the FCPS Equity Symposium.

Ravensworth Farm Looking for New Logo

The Ravensworth Farm Civic Association Board would like to announce a contest to discover a logo to be the header of the new Ravensworth Farmer newsletter and the RFCA Website, starting in October 2023.  This contest is open to all Ravensworth Farm residents and students of Ravensworth Elementary School and will have a cash prize.  Submissions are now open and can be remitted to: webmaster@ravensworthfarm.org no later than August 31, 2023.
