We are nearing the end of the school year and we are measuring our attendance rates. First, being in school matters and instruction will continue to the end of the year. Second, Fort Hunt is a great school and strong attendance helps reflect that to new families to the area. Third, we are subject to VDOE review for our attendance.
The temptation to take early vacations at the end of the school year could be the reason we slip above the 15% mark. Respectfully, I ask that families consider finishing the year strong and help keep Fort Hunt below the 15% for chronic absenteeism. We are at 14% as of today. Thank you for your support!

Memorial Day Holiday
This Memorial Day, we at Fort Hunt Elementary remember the men and women who have served in the Armed Forces that have passed on from this life to the next. We especially remember those who lost their lives in defense of this country and the democratic freedoms so cherished by its citizens. We offer all our thanks to first responders and those in the military services today who continue to protect this country in the tradition of those heroes in history that we celebrate each and every Memorial Day.
We look forward to seeing everyone back tomorrow for a strong finish to the end of the school year.

Este Día de los Caídos, en Fort Hunt Elementary recordamos a los hombres y mujeres que han servido en las Fuerzas Armadas y que han pasado de esta vida a la siguiente. Recordamos especialmente a quienes perdieron la vida en defensa de este país y de las libertades democráticas tan apreciadas por sus ciudadanos. The Virginia Department of Education is offering K-12 Learning Acceleration Grants.
Families can apply to get a grant for each school age child to use for tutors or approved educational materials over the summer. Grants of $1,500 (standard application) and $3,000 (income-qualified application) are available. Medicine Pick Up
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is FPS policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room.
If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school (June 16, 2023 by 1:45 pm) and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).
Recogida de Medicamentos
La sala de salud de la escuela les recuerda a los padres y tutores que todos los medicamentos almacenados en la sala de salud deben recogerse a más tardar a la hora de salida del estudiante el último día de clases. Los medicamentos que queden en la sala de salud después de esa hora serán destruidos. Es política de FCPS que los medicamentos deben ser recogidos por el padre o tutor. Los medicamentos no se pueden enviar a casa con su estudiante.
