May Newsletter

Hello Navy Elementary families and community.  It’s hard to believe that the school year is coming to an end.  I would like to thank all of you for your continued support of our students and teachers.  You make working at Navy Elementary a great experience!

Positive communication between the school and the community helps strengthen a student's overall positive school experience.  For our May newsletter, I would like to take this opportunity to re-introduce myself.

I am Faye Cofer.  I am one of the Assistant Principals at Navy.  I wear and have worn many hats at Navy, but the hat that I wear most proudly everyday is an advocate for all students.

I am originally from SC, where I was a standout college basketball player and then a  kindergarten teacher.  I have been an Assistant Principal for the past 20 years in SC and in VA (14 years at Navy).  I've had the privilege of working with diverse groups of students. I have created programs that targeted closing achievement gaps and supported student enrichment, built the capacity of teachers through collaborative team work, and partnered with parents. My goal at Navy Elementary is to continue the work of creating a culturally responsive environment that supports all students by name and needs.

When I am not at Navy, I enjoy spending my time with my husband and our three kids(an 11 and 8 year old twins) in Potomac, MD. I enjoy coaching my son’s basketball team, and I also enjoy serving as an advocate, protecting the rights of individuals with physical disabilities.

I am proud to be part of the Navy Community.  I look forward to a continued partnership with you.  Happy Summer!

Navy PTO Board Positions

hands shaking in shape of heart

As we approach the end of the school year the PTO board begins to look for parent volunteers to fill the upcoming PTO board vacancies. Per our PTO bylaws, each position holds a two year term and current board members cannot remain on the board over two years without a minimum of a one year break.

Typically, of the 6 core board positions, 3 positions are filled each year to maintain a general working knowledge of how the PTO operates with the remaining 3 positions. A seventh position, Director of After School Activities, also typically rotates on a two-year cycle, but can have a little more flexibility.

We still will have one crucial core board positions to fill for the 2023-2024 school year.

The vacant Navy PTO Board positions for 2023-2024 are:

  • President

Without the positions filled for next school year, the PTO will be severely crippled in the ability to support the students, staff, and families of the Navy ES community.

Interested candidates can email 2nd VP, Minji Lee, at navyptovolunteers@gmail.com for more information.
