8th grade celebration

Help Needed for the 8th Grade Celebration

The PTA has joined forces with Thoreau's Administration to celebrate our 8th graders with a super fun afternoon filled with food, ice cream, outdoor activities, a DJ and dancing, photo booth, raffle prizes, and more! The celebration will take place on Thursday, June 15 at 11:45am. The event is free for all 8th graders.

We need parent volunteers to help with set-up, monitoring food booths and activities, and clean-up. We are also looking for gift card donations to be used in the raffle - top choices are WAWA, Chipotle, Ben & Jerry's, Fosters Grill, DonutChew, Chick Fil-a, and Starbucks.

Information for Rising Freshmen

The Freshmen Transition Program at Marshall connects seniors with freshmen to build a mentorship throughout a student’s first year at Marshall. During Advisory period, mentor Seniors will visit freshmen advisories 1-2 times a month to build relationships and foster a sense community among students. This will be done through fun activities, information sharing, and just giving advice.

In addition, we have our Freshmen orientation this year on Friday, August 18th from 9am to 12pm.

Oakton Cougars Summer Camps

Looking for something to do this summer?  The Oakton Cougars are offering summer camps in a number of sports.  If you have students interested in taking part in any of our summer sports camps you can check out offerings on our website or here.  This site will continue to be updated in the coming weeks.

physical

2023 Physicals will be held on June 5th

The Oakton High School Athletic Training Program is offering an opportunity for students to receive a sports health screening and pre-participation physical (PPE) on Monday, June 5, 2023 from 5:30-8 pm.  Our team physicians and certified athletic trainers will be on hand to provide a thorough screening including a postural exam, flexibility evaluation, and information regarding what each of those assessments mean.  If, during the screening or physical the physicians find something that is questionable to them regarding your child’s health, they may request further evaluation by another physician.

This is our method of fundraising to be able to provide supplies and equipment that help us protect and rehabilitate our athlete’s injuries. We are asking for a donation of $50 for the PPE.  To pre-register for a PPE, go to 2023 Athletic Physical Registration and follow the links to Athletic Physicals (PPE).  The link is now active.  You can also find a link to the new Physical form at that site. Walk-ins are also welcome on that evening but we ask for a $60 donation at that time. You can pay for the PPE through my school bucks at the following link:

https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ver2/stores/catalog/getproduct?requestAction=ViewAll&clientKey=ZZI5ZQWBKS04NJ8&productGroupKey=ZZIOEEZJBP0RROF&view=&productKey=ZZ5QPAELMZYWA2U

If your son or daughter is thinking of playing a sport, he/she will need to have a VHSL pre-participation examination (PPE) completed on the official VHSL physical form.  This exam must be dated after May 1, 2023 in order for your son/daughter to be eligible to participate on any team, including pre-season conditioning.  The physical exam on page 3 must be completed and signed by a physician, a nurse practitioner, or a physician’s assistant (MD, NP, PA, or DO).
