It has been a busy few weeks at Rose Hill and we wouldn’t have it any other way! With SOLs, family night, safari hunts, field trips, and so much more, everyone has been busy! It feels like the weather has finally turned the corner from spring to summer and it seems like recess time is never quite long enough. As we prepare for the final weeks of school, we are keeping our student expectations high and finding opportunities to celebrate all of their achievements.

Mr. Staroscik, Mrs. Miller, Ms. Edwards

Still Need to Order a Yearbook?

Because of several parent requests, we have reopened the yearbook ordering portal. It will be open until June 1st. The yearbooks have already been printed so we do have a limited number. We cannot guarantee that they will be available to purchase laster on. Once we run out, we run out. To order a yearbook, go to www.strawbrdige.net. The online code is: YB25423. Cost of each yearbook is $14.

Bike & Roll Day to School

Bike Day

Wednesday, May 3rd was Bike & Roll to School Day. The rain cleared just in time for many parents and students to join us riding or scooting to school. Thank you to FCPD for helping to escort us as well as Mr. Staroscik and Mrs. Peevy, PE Teacher, for coordinating this event for our community.

SOL Testing Update

Grades 3-6 have completed their first SOL (Standards of Learning) Assessments this past week. The test they took was reading. While the students (and teachers!) were nervous and excited, they absolutely performed like rockstars! Students used their test taking strategies, read and reread the passages, and took their time. We are proud of the their efforts! This week, the students will take the math SOL and the schedule is below. Later this week or early the following week, if your student is eligible for a retake, the classroom teacher will be contacting you directly to have a conversation about your options. Thank you for supporting your child as they go through this testing window.

Family Fun Night!

Family Fun Night

Friday, May 5th was a beautiful evening for the Family Fun Night and oh wow, what a great turnout we had! It was so much fun watching the students play games, eat popsicles and interact with their friends. It was also great to see so many Rose Hill families also engage in these activities and we absolutely love getting to meet the siblings of our students. The ABAR Leadership team (Sarah Malone, 2nd grade teacher; Sarah Shin, 2nd grade teacher; Dave Worst, PE Teacher; and Wesli Foster, 6th grade teacher) came up with the Family Night idea and the administrative team was happy to support it. It took quite a team of staff volunteers to pull this together and we’d like to thank them as well!

SEPTA Awards

SEPTA

Saturday evening, May 6th was The 6th Annual Fairfax County SEPTA Awards ceremony. SEPTA is an acronym for Special Education Parent Teacher Association. Several of Rose Hill team members were nominated and two came home with a win! Stella Samuels took home the award for Outstanding General Education Elementary Teacher. Bre Case won Special Educator of the Year-Elementary. We have always known that Rose Hill was a special place for students with disability but seeing how many folks were nominated just reiterast how awesome our school is!

Safari

Preschool Safari Hunt

It’s amazing how much the students pick up when there is a change in scenery around the school building. For example, two weeks ago, the Preschool/PAC team hung pictures of various animals in the hallways and the students noticed them right away and were asking why they were there. Then they saw the Rose Hill Safari truck moving throughout the building and were immediately infatuated with what was going on. The littlest Rockets were going on a safari hunt! They had magnifying glasses, notebooks, and binoculars that helped them locate the various animals around Rose Hill!

Staff Appreciation Week - Thank you!!!

SAW

Wow! Thank you to our school community for celebrating the Rose Hill staff this past week. Everyone appreciated the snacks, beverages, flowers, notes, and trinkets that were given to show appreciation for the hard work that they do each and every day. To the parents who dropped donations off and to the PTA members who were setting up each day at 7am, thank you isn't enough to let you know just how much your kindness means. Teaching is a profession that has become more challenging and at this time of the year, everyone is exhausted but this week provided the boost that we all needed. We love your children like they are ours and knowing that we are doing this in partnership with parents/guardians means everying. Thank you! ❤
