Videographer Needed for Annie KIDS

Attention, WFES Families! We are looking for a videographer to record our production of Annie on Wednesday, June 7th and Thursday, June 8th at 7PM. If you have equipment and would be willing to donate your time to a terrific cast of 5th and 6th graders, please contact Alisa Waggoner: akwaggoner@fcps.edu.

You do not need to be professional videographer, just experienced. Once the video is made, we will reproduce DVDs. The show will run about one hour. Thank you!

Farewell to Renee Gilmore

Our beloved SACC Supervisor, Renee Gilmore is retiring this year. Please join us June 12th 4:00 pm for a farewell. 


Safety Patrol Applications

Patrol

Students in 4th and 5th grades can apply to be a WFES Safety Patrol for the 2023-2024 school year. Patrols have posts in the school and on school buses to assist with safe arrival and dismissal.

Current 5th grade safety patrols have the option to apply to be a patrol Officer.  Your child will learn how the application process will work during PE.

WFES Patrol Co-Sponsors and PE Teachers, Ms. Massimo and Ms. Maxwell-Gold, will explain the process to them, help them understand the qualifications to become a Safety Patrol/Officer and will show them how/where to apply.

Listed below are important Patrol application process dates for you to also be aware of to help guide your child through the process, we appreciate your support!

Wednesday, May 24th – Applications are due.  Late applications will not be accepted.

Friday, June 2nd – Patrol and Officer selections announced (letters will be given to students at the end of the school day).


6th Grade Yard Signs

Celebrate your child's upcoming 6th grade promotion! WFES "Congrats" yard signs can be picked up in the office at anytime. We cannot send them home with your student, so please arrange to come by the front office during our regular hours of 8:00am-4:00pm.


Lost and Found

Coming to an event at school? Please come check out our lost and found for any items your child may be missing. It can be found outside of the front office at the door #1 entrance. Small items (jewelry, watches, ear buds, military medals, etc) can be found in the front office. All items remaining will be donated at the end of the June 20, 2023.


The Dr. Lawrence Bussey Memorial Equity Award

The Minority Student Achievement Oversight Committee (MSAOC) is sponsoring an award to honor the legacy of Dr. Lawrence "Larry" Bussey by celebrating the efforts and impact of those who work to redress inequitable systems and practices in FCPS.  This award recognizes staff or community members who have demonstrated significant and impactful efforts to improve the educational experiences and outcomes of students from groups who are marginalized or underserved.

Any FCPS employee, student, or community member can nominate an individual or group for the award. All nomination materials must be submitted by June 15, 2023.  The winner will be recognized at the FCPS Equity Symposium.

PTA Volunteer Positions Open

In order to have these activities during the 2023-24 school year we need volunteers for the following ares:

After School Coordinator

The after school coordinator works to build an after school program by reaching out to a variety of independent contractors that will provide their services on school grounds.  Previous School Year After-school Activities included: Chess Club, Dance / Zumba, Drama, Girls on the Run (GOTR), Martial Arts, Sports/Overtime Athletics, and Yoga.

Global Plus Coordinator

The Global Plus coordinator will work with the Global Plus office to schedule after-school language classes at WFES during the school year. The coordinator will choose which language(s) to offer, complete the necessary Global Plus paperwork, work with the school’s front office to secure classrooms for the offered courses, advertise the courses in the PTA’s booklet of after-school activities, and at times act as the point of contact between WFES administration and Global Plus.

Hospitality Coordinator

The Hospitality Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for setting up multiple events throughout the school year.  These events primarily aim to boost morale and recognize the WFES teachers and staff.  Previous recognition events have included back to school breakfast (Late August), Luncheon, Dinner and treat bags (April-May). 

STEAM Fair Coordinator

The STEAM Fair Coordinator will work with Mr. Gray to coordinate the STEAM Fair.  The STEAM Fair includes 1) exhibits run by vendors, 2) stations such as a coding station, gardening activities, and art installations, and 3) displays of student STEAM projects. 

Odyssey of the Mind Coordinator

Let's help our kiddos think outside of the box to expand their problem solving and group work skills by helping with the Odyssey of the Mind Program at WFES. https://www.odysseyofthemind.com/


End of Year - Meds to be Picked Up

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than Friday, June 16th at 1:30 PM. Medication left in the health room after Friday, June 16th at 1:30 PM will be destroyed. It is Health Department policy that medications be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. Please contact Stephanie McNamara in the health room @ 703-503-2310 if you have questions.


Construction Corner

The construction team has been working on the drainage for the courtyard area, which will be turned into an Outdoor Classroom space for students and staff.

Senior Grad Walk June 5th

We invite our former Wakefield Forest wolves to the Senior Grad Walk June 5, 2023 at 2:30 PM. Wear your cap and gown and be celebrated by our current Wakefield Forest crew. Due to construction, please meet by door 4 near the gym.

(Due to construction, parking can be challenging.)


WT Woodson Relay for Life - May 20th

The Relay for Life Club at Woodson High School is inviting you and your family to join them May 20th, starting at 5:00 PM for a fundraising event on the football field to bring the Woodson pyramid community together in the fight against cancer. Some of the events they have planned include water wars, a Kona Ice food truck, live band performances, luminaria ceremony, running relay, capture the flag, kickball, and so much more. High schoolers and adults should anticipate a $15 entrance fee, and kids are free!
