Principal's Message
Dear Fairview Families,
It is hard to believe we are already halfway through the month of May! This week we officially started our spring testing for our third through sixth grade students. Our messaging to students around these tests is that we simply ask them to do the best they can. We try to minimize pressure and maximize effort. A couple of things we know to have a positive impact on students taking tests:
- A good night sleep
- Encouragement/belief from families and teachers
- A healthy morning meal
On Thursday of this week, we began our ABC countdown to the last day of school, this coming week we look forward to celebrating Care Day, D.E.A.R. Day, Exercise Day, Fairview Day (wear Fairview gear on Thursday!) and Game Day. We look forward to a fun and productive end of the school year and hope that you are all able to enjoy the wonderful weather!
Sincerely,
Samantha Goldstein and Meghan Ehrman
Substance Use Education
“May Day” is an emergency procedure word used internationally as a distress signal in voice-procedure radio communications. The new 9-8-8 number is a suicide and crisis lifeline, similar to 9-1-1 in a medical/safety emergency. One in six youth, aged 6-17, experience a mental health condition each year. Middle School Sports
Middle School Athletics Coming This Fall
FCPS has designated funding in the budget for 2023-24 for middle school spring and fall athletic activities to support student well-being at no cost to students. Pending budget adoption, this will be the first time FCPS has offered middle school students a chance to participate in extracurricular sports programs.
Middle schools will start with cross country this fall. Track will follow in spring 2024.
Any middle school students who would like to participate in athletics will need to have a Virginia High School League (VHSL) pre-participation examination (PPE). The physical exam form must be completed and signed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant. Fairfax County public high schools will offer PPEs at a cost of $50 per student through June 17. Students who receive free or reduced meals are eligible to receive an exam at no cost. Learn more about PPE and middle school athletics.

Class Placement: Parent/Guardian Input for the 2023-2024 School Year
As we begin planning for the next school year, one of our most challenging tasks is creating class groupings. It is very important to have balanced classes that reflect the diversity and needs of our students. As we make these placements, we consider many factors including individual student information, teacher input, and social relationships.
If you have information that you believe is pertinent to your child’s placement for next year, please complete this form by Friday, May 26. There is no need to complete the form if you do not have any information you would like us to consider. Requests for specific teachers will not be honored.

School Supplies for 2023-24
It's that time of year again! The PTA is partnering with EPI for grade level supply kits for purchase starting now through June 25th. If you order now, there is a 10% discount! Reduce the stress of shopping for supplies by purchasing one of the kits and it will be waiting for your student in their classroom during Open House in August!
It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!
Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events—including orientation—in the Spring during March or April. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources on hand that they need on the first day of school.
After determining which school their child will attend, families should prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms, details can be found on the FCPS kindergarten registration webpage. FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, visit the kindergarten registration webpage.
