Good afternoon, Fox Mill Families,
Teacher Appreciation Week- A BIG THANK YOU FROM OUR STAFF
Our teachers and staff send a big THANK YOU to our wonderful families for their generous donations that made last week so wonderful. A special thank you goes out to the following volunteers: Julie Cuyler, Trish Atkins, Marta Pardo, Phuong Pham, Emily Chappell, Jessica Kennedy and Stephanie Crochet.
Our kindergarten teachers were surprised with an autographed photo as well as a video message from “Uncle Jessie” on the popular late 1980s to early 1990s TV comedy “Full House”. The video message thanked them for their hard work and dedication to nurturing young minds.
Also making the news at Fox Mill - Fairfax County Public Schools Office of Food and Nutrition Services has partnered with Real Food for Kids to bring salad bars to all elementary schools in the county. Fox Mill Elementary School opened its salad bar on Monday, May 1st. Students were excited to build their salads from a variety of colorful nutritious fruits and vegetables. Staff from Food and Nutrition Services did an exceptional job demonstrating and outlining safe and hygienic practices to navigate the salad bar.
We started our SOLS and thanks to Mrs. Alger and Mr. Felt, our amazing technical staff, we had little to no issues getting started. We would like to thank our volunteers for assisting our students with taking breaks and bathroom runs. We look forward to seeing our other volunteers, who signed up for next week.
We had the pleasure of sitting in the atrium with a few students for lunch bunch this week. We also got a glimpse of our resident turtle, we now call “Fox Trot.” Please see the pictures we shared on our Twitter Feed.
A FEW UPDATES
SEL SCREENER REPORTS
Students in grades 3-12 took the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener in March. The SEL Screener reports will be mailed directly to families next week. This website includes both the Parent Report as well as a Family Guide to support you in understanding results and ideas for talking with your student about their results. Both are available in multiple languages. To learn more about SEL and how we support students at school and at home please see the FCPS SEL website. Please reach out to our school counselors, school psychologist or school social worker with any questions.
MATSURI CHILDREN’S DAY FESTIVAL
We look forward to seeing families and friends at the Matsuri Japanese Children's Day Festival tomorrow, May 12 at Rachel Carson Middle School. Last year’s event was a success and this year’s Matsuri promises to be even bigger and better. See you there!
