Additional Info RE: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Immunization for Rising Seventh Grade Students
Virginia state law requires the Virginia Department of Health to provide the parents and/or guardians of rising seventh grade students with information on human papillomavirus (HPV) and the human papillomavirus vaccine. The human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV) prevents six types of cancer, including cervical cancer and certain head and neck cancers. Boys and girls should receive the vaccine when they are 11-12 years old.
Effective July 1, 2021, a complete series of two doses of HPV vaccine is required for all students entering the seventh grade. The first dose shall be administered before the student enters the seventh grade. Parents/guardians, at their sole discretion, may elect for their student not to receive the HPV immunization.
Annually, the Virginia Department of Health and the Commissioner of Health provide HPV vaccine information located at the following sites:

National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)
The Rocky Run Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society is a club for 8th grade students who have met the academic requirement of a 3.75 cumulative grade point average at the end of 7th grade. Students who have met that criteria in addition to maintaining a clean discipline record will be invited to apply for membership in August of their 8th grade school year. The invitation to apply will be sent to the qualifying student’s school email address and they will be given a deadline to complete the online application. Those who are accepted into the NJHS will attend their first membership meeting in September. Students will be expected to maintain a 3.75 GPA, a clean discipline record, and complete 30 hours of community/school service by May in order to become a pinned member. We are sharing this information since many families are wondering about the process. All 7th grade students will have to wait until 8th grade school year to start the application process.
If you do not have a student attending Rocky Run Middle School and do not wish to receive this communication, you may update your subscription here.
