Message from Dr. Khoshaba

Greetings SoCo family!

We’ve had another wonderful week! Lots is happening, from AP and SOL testing to sports to club meetings and so much more. Our school culture is rich with talented students. Do you want some examples? Great! Here they are!

The first week of States for the Crew team was this weekend and we had 4 boats race, 2 fours and 2 eights, all of which are now the top 5 in the state. The women's novice 4 got 5th, the women's novice 8 got 2nd, the men's novice 4 got 5th, and the men's novice eight got 2nd. We are racing the 2nd week of States this weekend, so come support our Stallion Crew team if you are able. Go Stallions!

Please join me in congratulating the South County High School Technology Students Association club!  This past weekend, the SCHS TSA club traveled to Hampton Roads, Virginia to compete at the state level. Two of the teams placed. Nimah Rahman took First Place in HS Data Science and Analytics.  The team of Dinah Addisalem and Amir Al-Husainawi took Second Place in HS Geospatial Technology. We’re all very proud of our TSA students!

Congratulations to our Guitar Ensemble. Two students performed at the VMEA North Region Guitar Assessment this past weekend and achieved a Superior rating, the highest honor that can be achieved from an assessment weekend. We love our music in Stallion Country!

We also want to congratulate Natalie Beasley and Ethan Larimore, who have been selected to attend the Governor’s School for Visual and Performing Arts.  Be sure to congratulate them when you see them!

I had a great time at the Hispanic Student Association meeting this past Monday. Great food and student leadership was on display. I had a great time playing Jenga with Dominic and Allison, along with having great camaraderie with the other club members.

On Wednesday night, we had an incredible night of Girls Soccer vs. Lake Braddock. This was Senior Night, and it was so wonderful to see the support for our seniors as we went on to win this very competitive game.

Lastly, I want to give a reminder to parents that we are having our opioid presentation for on May 26 during the first class of the day. Due to space limitations, we can only have one graduating class of students for this presentation, and the freshmen were selected. If you do not want your students to attend this presentation, there is an opt-out form that was sent to you previously. Feel free to email my Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Gibson (ccgibson@fcps.edu), if you need help locating that document.

Have a great weekend!

VOLUNTEER

From The Testing Office

Parents – WE NEED YOU!!! - AP Testing Parent Volunteers

The Testing Office is in desperate need of parent volunteers to help support Advanced Placement (AP) Testing from May 8 through May 12.  Volunteers would support the Student Services staff in checking in students, distributing tests, and supporting test security during the exams.  To avoid conflicts of interest, we ask that parents do not volunteer during their own student’s exam.  Please go to the Sign-Up Genius linked below to volunteer:

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0A4FABA82FA0FE3-aptesting

If you have any additional questions, please contact Chris Bird, AP Test Coordinator, and cwbird@fcps.edu or at 703-446-1643.

From the Library

As the school year winds down, please ask your student(s) to check their FCPS Google email on Monday mornings for reminders of overdue library books.

Printed notices will be distributed through English classes during the week of May 15th and again the week of June 5th.  All library books need to be returned to the library by June 2nd. Seniors must clear their library records before picking up their cap and gown.

If a library book has been lost, students will need to pay the replacement cost listed on the reminder notice. The library can only accept exact cash for lost library books from seniors, but can also accept checks from underclassmen.
