Principal's Corner

Campbell

Greetings Key Families!

We had another amazing week at Key MS! This week, we celebrated our teachers and staff for Teacher Appreciation Week. We delivered breakfast and coffee, handed out Key-branded lunchboxes to all staff, and hosted a pizza party. I want to especially thank our wonderful PTA who provided the staff with a catered lunch on Tuesday. I heard many teachers share that this was a Teacher Appreciation Week for the ages!

Today, we celebrated our 7th and 8th graders who made the All A and A-B Honor Roll. This is quite an achievement, as students must maintain these high averages across all classes for the entire school year. Both Mr. Brown and Ms. Tillman shared powerful words of wisdom with the student body. Kudos to all students who worked hard to earn this achievement!

Finally, the cast and crew of James and the Giant Peach had their opening performance for our after-school performance yesterday afternoon. It was a sold-out show, with students and staff staying after to see the show. Everyone was raving about how fun the show is, and what a great job our students did. There are additional performances tonight and tomorrow at 6:30. We hope to see you there!

Have a great weekend!

SOL's

SOLs are fast approaching. Below are our planned testing days for our students. Students should bring their charged FCPS laptop, their charger, a pencil, and a book to read to all testing sessions. All electronic devices (phones) will need to be turned off and stored in the student’s backpack or turned into the teacher in the testing room. Electronic watches are not allowed as well.

Students will do their best if they get a good night’s rest and eat breakfast.  Please avoid appointments on the testing days so we can ensure all students take their required tests.  We have a spirit week next week to pump up the students to do their best on their SOLs.  We hope your student enjoys the fun leading up to the tests.

SOL Parent/Guardian Permission to Retest Form

The Virginia Board of Education allows elementary and middle school students who fail their spring Standards of Learning (SOL) tests by a narrow margin to retake the test before the end of the school year. Retesting is available when a student fails their first SOL attempt with a score of 375-399. (A score of 400 is considered passing for SOL tests.) Note that retests are not offered for fall or winter Virginia Growth Assessment (VGA) tests.

Parent/guardian permission is required for the school to retest any student in grades 3-8. If you believe that your student would benefit from a second opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills on the spring SOL test, please complete this Google permission form.   A decision not to allow retesting will not impact your student’s course grade or academic record.

Mentor-Mentee Kickball Game

ParentVUE Sign-Up for Parents

What Is ParentVUE and How Can You Sign Up?

If you do not already have a ParentVUE SIS account, sign up now to monitor and support your child’s academic success! Through ParentVUE, you are able to monitor your student’s attendance, grades, and assignments at any time. You can also access special reports for your student like progress reports and assessments score reports.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. SIS ParentVUE can be accessed using an app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android devices.

Need help creating a SIS ParentVUE account? This video walks you through the steps on how to do so. You can also find out more about SIS ParentVUE on our website.

Update Contact Information in weCare@School

Within SIS ParentVUE, Fairfax County Public Schools provides weCare@school (weCare), an emergency care information system. weCare helps manage contact and emergency medical information by allowing parents/caregivers to enter and update their children’s data online.

That contact information automatically enrolls parents/caregivers to receive critical updates from the district and their child’s school through the eNotify system. FCPS uses eNotify to communicate emergency, transportation, attendance, weather closing and delay, and essential outreach messages. Messages are sent by email, text, and occasionally by phone. Learn more about updating your emergency care information.
