End-of-Year Calendar
We are now in AP and SOL testing season! The End of the Year calendar including the AP, SOL, and final exam schedule can be found on the school website here.
Suspension of Attendance Notifications During Spring Assessments and Last Day of School – All Levels
Morning attendance calls, texts, and e-mails will be suspended during the AP and SOL testing windows for middle and high schools only. Evening attendance notification will continue as normally scheduled. Elementary schools are not impacted by the suspension of morning attendance notifications during testing windows. Note that we are only suspending attendance notifications. Schools will still need to follow standard attendance procedures and record student attendance throughout the testing windows. The dates during which morning attendance notifications will be suspended are as follows:
-
High school: Morning notifications suspended May 1-June 2, 2023. Notifications will resume June 5, 2023.
- Additionally, all attendance notifications will be suspended for elementary, middle, and high schools on the last day of school.
Community Conversation Regarding School Safety & Security
FCPS will host a community conversation to discuss our approach to safety and security, and the work we do every day to keep our schools safe. Join us Monday, May 8, 6:30-7:30 p.m., at South Lakes High School. Register for the Community Conversation.
FCPS staff and experts will review our risk assessment processes, the physical measures we already have in place to protect our students and staff, pilot programs to detect vaping, and how we communicate and collaborate with our partners when there is an incident at our schools.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener
Students in grades 3-12 took the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener in March. The SEL Screener reports will be mailed directly to families in the next week. This website includes both the Parent Report as well as a Family Guide to support you in understanding results and ideas for talking with your student about their results. Both are available in multiple languages. To learn more about SEL and how we support students at school and at home please see the FCPS SEL website. Please reach out to our school counselors, school psychologist or school social worker with any questions.
No Cost Hazel Health Teletherapy for High School Students
At last Thursday’s School Board meeting, Superintendent Reid presented on FCPS’ partnership with Hazel Health to offer teletherapy to high school students at no cost. Hazel’s therapists can help students address:
- Mood/behavior changes, motivation, grief/loss
- Anxiety, worry, fears
- Social skills, bullying, peer and family relationships
- Academic stress
How to Access Hazel Health Teletherapy Services
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Have you set up your high school student for free mental health therapy?
In order for high schoolers to participate in teletherapy services, caregivers must complete three steps:
- Give permission for FCPS to share basic demographic information with Hazel in ParentVUE.
-
Consent for Hazel Mental Health services.
- Students must be referred to therapy by a guardian or designated school staff member. You may refer your child by calling 571-749-2940 or by contacting an FCPS school counselor, social worker, psychologist, or director of Student Services.
Visit the FCPS Teletherapy webpage for more information.

You are invited to the 2nd Annual
BANDEMONIUM
An Outdoor Music Festival Under the Stars
Presented by the CVHS Wildcat Band
Friday, May 19 at 6:30PM – CVHS Bus Loop
Great Performances, Food Trucks, Face Painting, 50/50 Raffle and more!
Centreville High School Wildcat Band’s 2nd Annual Bandemonium, an outdoor music festival under the stars, will take place on Friday, May 19th at 6:30PM in the school’s bus loop. In case of rain, the concert will be moved indoors into the Skip Maiden Auditorium.
Last year’s inaugural Bandemonium event was a tremendous success with over 500 audience members in attendance. It was such a joy to create a new tradition for Centreville High School and our surrounding community that was so well received. The students and I are excited to bring it back, bigger and better this year!
From young to old, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Audience members will have the option to get their faces painted, get henna tattoos and even dance to some swingin’ jazz tunes. 500 folding chairs will be available for the audience, but guests are also encouraged to bring picnic blankets and camping chairs and enjoy a picnic while listening to talented student musicians. Food trucks Little Lady Grill, Two Smooth Dudes, Kona Ice, and Adam's Delights Ice Cream will be on-site for guests to purchase food to enjoy.
I hope to see ALL of our Centreville community there! LET’S GO BAND!
