Last Day - Class Placement Parent Input

If your child is returning to Forestville next school year, we offer you the opportunity to share any comments you would like regarding your child's academic strengths, areas for growth, and learning environment. If you know that your family will not be joining us for the 2023-24 school year, please reach out to Ms. Tran at httran2@fcps.edu or 703-404-6000 to let us know.

Our staff will be working on tentative class groupings this spring, with classroom assignments finalized in mid-August.  As we make these placements, we consider many factors including individual student information, teacher input, and social relationships. Every class will have a blend of children with diverse needs, personalities, and learning interests. Due to the many factors we must consider in creating classroom placements, including the staffing of our teachers, requests for a specific teacher cannot be honored.

If you have information that you believe is pertinent to your child’s placement for next year, please complete this optional form by TONIGHT for it to be taken into consideration. There is no need to complete the form if you do not have any information you would like us to consider. Due to the tight timeline before school is out, late submissions cannot be considered. Thank you!

career day

Volunteers Needed:
6th Grade Career Day

Forestville will be hosting its annual 6th Grade Career Day on Friday, June 9th to help students explore their career interests. The tentative time for this event is 9:30-10:30am. We are looking for volunteers to serve as our Career Day presenters in order to make this event memorable for our 6th grade students. Presenters will need to prepare a short presentation that focuses on how the presenter became interested in the career and the responsibilities involved with that career.

Please email Sophie Biggar (sabiggar@fcps.edu) for more information if you are interested in volunteering. Thank you!

SEL Screener Student Reports

Students in grades 3-12 participate in the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener in the fall and the spring. The reports for students who took the SEL Screener in March will be mailed to families soon. Please keep in mind that these results represent students’ perceptions of themselves in one moment in time. If you have questions regarding your student’s report or concerns about their wellness, please contact their school counselor.

An Update on ESSER Funding, and the Proposal for 2023-24

In the fall of 2021, FCPS received $188.8 million in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) funding to support the safe operation of schools and address the impacts of COVID-19 on students.

Last week, Sloan Presidio, FCPS’ chief academic officer, presented the proposed ESSER expenditures for the 2023-24 school year, the last year of ESSER funding. This funding is in addition to the FCPS operating budget and is specifically targeting the impacts of COVID-19.

The proposed plan presented at the recent School Board Meeting is intended to maximize the dollars remaining in our funding. At least 20% of the funding must be spent toward unfinished learning. The proposed plan has nearly 80% of ESSER funds allocated to support student learning needs. Read more about the plan.
