Teacher Appreciation Week

There are never enough words to express our appreciation for the amazing teachers here at Braddock Elementary School. We will do our best to show them how much we love them next week during Teacher Appreciation Week. Encourage your child to write a letter or make a card showing their teacher how much they appreciate them!

Say “Thank You!” to Your Favorite Teacher:

FCPS is celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week on Social Media. They are asking students and families to submit a recorded message thanking and celebrating our school’s amazing teachers and staff. Your video message may be selected to share with our teachers and community on FCPS’ website and social media channels throughout Teacher Appreciation Week. Surprising our teachers and staff with these messages of gratitude and support is part of the fun, so keep your contribution under wraps until May. More information and a submission form are available online. Please be aware, the submission form requires a Google account. If you do not have a Google account and wish to be part of the celebration, share your messages on social media and tag FCPS on Facebook or Instagram.

Gift Card Raffle:

The Braddock PTA will continue to collect $5-$10 gift cards to raffle off to our staff during the week of Teacher Appreciation. If you would like to contribute to the raffle, please drop off the gift card at the main office or contact Holly Dowling at hmdowling@fcps.edu We appreciate your support in celebrating the amazing work our teachers are doing this year and every year! Right now we have 12 gift cards, we would LOVE to get to 20!

The Critical and Creative Thinker Attribute

What is a Critical and Creative Thinker?

Students that embody the attribute of critical and creative thinkers create unique solutions to challenges that arise and make the world a better place by asking, “How can I make a difference?”

Critical and Creative Thinker Skills and K-6 Objectives:

    • Engages in problem solving, inquiry, and design of innovative solutions to overcome obstacles to improve outcomes.
  • I can revise and refine my ideas.
    • Uses information in novel and creative ways to strengthen comprehension and deepen awareness.
  • I can create unique solutions.
    • Demonstrates divergent and ingenious thought to enhance the design-build process.
  • I can revise and refine my ideas.
    • Expresses thought, ideas, and emotions meaningfully through the arts.
  • I show that I am creative.
    • Evaluates ideas and information sources for validity, relevance, and impact.
  • I show that I am creative.
    • Reasons through and weighs evidence to reach conclusions.
  • I ask questions to clarify, explore, and assess ideas.

Support the Critical and Creative Thinker Attribute at Home

Consider telling your child when they are demonstrating a skill at home or in a social setting, "You were a critical and creative thinker today when you built a car out of Legos."

Instead of asking your child "What did you learn today?" try these questions instead.

  • How were you a creative and critical thinker today?
  • During ___, did you ask any questions? How did it help your thinking?
  • Did you have opportunities to problem-solve? How did it help you find a solution?
  • Were you creative today? What did you do to be creative?
