From lunch from California Pizza Kitchen, snack cart, to Ben & Jerry' ice cream truck, our PTA spoiled our staff this week! We felt very appreciated!

2023 Cox Education Hero

rowena

We are pleased to share with you that our very own Ms. Hipol, a Kindergarten teacher, has been selected as a 2023 Cox Education Hero. The employees at Cox Communications selected her for going above and beyond to support student learning.  Here's a blurb from her nomination:

Ms. Hipol is truly magical when she is with students in her Kindergarten classroom! This year, she has faced many challenges, including an overcapacity classroom (a Kindergarten class size of 30 students) and some significant behavior challenges of a student in her classroom. Despite these challenges, Ms. Hipol always remains calm and finds ways to engage her students in the magic of learning.  With the student displaying significant behavior in her class almost daily, Ms. Hipol collaborates with the clinical team to implement strategies to support the child.  Moreover, she writes daily communication with the child's parents no matter how difficult her day had been.  Her message to the parent is always caring, and in her daily communication, she emphasizes how much she cares for this student and his family.  No matter what kind of a day she's had, she always smiles and says, "I do it for the kids."   Besides that, Ms. Hipol always volunteers to stay late to volunteer for every evening school event and continues to build strong partnerships with our families.

Ms. Hipol' s superpower is her ability to connect with students and make each child see magic in learning.  She also has an exquisite ability to communicate with families and build strong home-school partnerships.

On behalf of Ms. Hipol, Cox Communications awarded Eagle View Elementary with a $1,000 grant for her classroom. Congratulations, Ms. Hipol!

School of Excellence Survey

The National PTA School of Excellence is a program designed to help local PTAs partner with their school leaders, families, students, and community members to improve and promote family-school partnerships and overall well-being for all students. By enrolling in this program, our PTA and school administrators are making a year-long commitment to identify and implement an action plan for school improvement based on PTA's National Standards for Family-School Partnerships and informed by PTA’s Center for Family Engagement. Our initial survey - which was meant to establish a baseline and identify gaps - was deployed in the fall. This end-of-year survey is intended to measure our progress and understand how well EVES PTA addressed those gaps.

🏃‍♀️ Middle School Athletics Coming This Fall

FCPS has designated funding in the budget for 2023-24 for middle school spring and fall athletic activities to support student well-being at no cost to students. Pending budget adoption, this will be the first time FCPS has offered middle school students a chance to participate in extracurricular sports programs.

Middle schools will start with cross country this fall. Track will follow in spring 2024.

Any middle school students who would like to participate in athletics will need to have a Virginia High School League (VHSL) pre-participation examination (PPE). The physical exam form must be completed and signed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant. Fairfax County public high schools will offer PPEs at a cost of $50 per student through June 17. Students who receive free or reduced meals are eligible to receive an exam at no cost. Learn more about PPE and middle school athletics.
