We are Better Together!

Dear Island Creek Community,

Next week is Staff Appreciation Week and I want to express my own appreciation for our incredible staff. As a parent myself, I know how much trust we place in the adults with whom our children spend the majority of their waking hours Monday through Friday. The school-home partnership is vital to supporting students academically, socially, and emotionally, and I am blessed to work with such a dedicated, caring staff who are passionate about supporting every child and helping them learn, grow, feel safe, and experience joy.

Though we have less than two months of school left, we have exciting events! Field Day will be held for all students on Friday, June 2 (rain date: June 9) and Field Day t-shirts are being sold through www.MySchoolBucks.com until Wednesday, May 10. We will continue to promote a love of reading for every student, with a Read-A-Thon on May 22-May 31. Additionally, Staff are gearing up to overcome their basketball defeat, with a Staff vs. 6th Grade kickball game on Wednesday, June 7.

Lastly, we want to encourage student attendance overall as we come to the end of the 2022-2023 school year. According to a recent study of elementary and middle schools, there is a 5.8% difference between April and June attendance rates. Let's work together to end the school year successfully! Visit FCPS’ website for attendance resourcesAttend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!

Your Proud Principal,
Jen Fallert

District X Solo and Ensemble Festival

There were 33 Band and Strings students who represented Island Creek last weekend at the District X Solo and Ensemble Festival at Holmes Middle School.  They played solos and small ensembles that they prepared outside of school.  They each played their performances for a judge, who gave them a score based on their preparedness and playing skills.  We are so proud of our students for their hard work.   Furthermore, they ALL received TOP SCORES from the judges!!!

Class Placement: Parent/Guardian Input (due Friday, May 12)

Our staff will be starting to create tentative class groupings this spring, with classroom assignments finalized in mid-August.  As we make these placements, we consider many factors including individual student information, teacher input, and social relationships. Every class will have a blend of children with diverse needs, personalities, and learning interests. Due to the many factors we must consider in creating classroom placements, including the staffing of our teachers, requests for a specific teacher cannot be honored.

If you have information that you believe is pertinent to your child’s placement for next year, please complete this form by Friday, May 12. There is no need to complete the form if you do not have any information you would like us to consider.

SOL Testing Dates (Grades 3-6)

Please mark your calendar for Grades 3-6 Standards of Learning (SOL) Testing.  It is important that your child arrives to school on time on SOL test dates, get a good night's sleep the night before, and eats a healthy breakfast. All SOL Testing will take place in the morning.
