Lane PTA Needs You! Elections Meeting TONIGHT at 6:30 on Zoom

Lane Families,

Our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is an incredible support system for our students and staff. The PTA funds the development of our STEAM program, they offer financial support to lower the costs of field trips, they find ways to show our staff appreciation, and they plan fun opportunities to bring our community together throughout the year. In order to maintain the level of support we have come to know and love, we need you to get involved! This year brings big turnover across the board, as you'll see below with the position descriptions. Please consider filling one of these open positions!

Descriptions of Open Positions:

Vice President - This is a new opportunity to work hand-in-hand with the President to ensure we are organized throughout the year. This position is also the liaison to ensure the Membership/Volunteer Chair, Family Liaison Chair, and Inclusivity Chair are receiving the support they need.

Membership/Volunteer Chair - This position runs the Membership Drive in the month of August (during popsicles at the playground, back-to-school night, etc.) Following the Membership Drive, this person will work closely with the social and fundraising leads to coordinate sign-up geniuses for volunteer needs. Intent is that the majority of sign-up needs are identified/created prior to the start of school.

Secretary - This position develops the agenda for the monthly meetings and takes minutes (notes) during the monthly meetings. They are also familiar with the PTA bylaws. Preference would be for a Lane Teacher/Staff Member to fill this role.

Treasurer - This position tracks the money coming in and going out of our Lane PTA bank account. The budget will be identified over the summer. From there, this person will write checks for reimbursement, share monthly updates on our budget at the PTA meetings, and ensure our account is in good standing by completing annual taxes with our accountant.

VP Fundraising - This position coordinates all opportunities for fundraising throughout the year. This year, we are adding co-chair positions, so that the VP Fundraising can oversee fundraising but not be the sole, responsible person for each of these opportunities.

Read-A-Thon Chair - In the past, we've used a company to run fundraisers, and we've realized they take a large percentage of our profit. In the Fall of 2023, we would like to hold one large fundraiser to satisfy fundraising requirements for the entire year. We would like to hold a Read-A-Thon and handle all donations in-house. That way, 100% of donations go to Lane Elementary. We will reward students with gift cards to the book fair, to reinvest in our school and our students' love of reading. Intent is to have all logistics complete prior to the start of the school year, so all we have to do is collect donations. This fundraiser will run for 2-3 weeks and be completed in the month of September.

Basket Bingo Chair - This is a Lane Elementary favorite. Many families responded in our PTA survey and asked us to offer this event again next Spring. Ideally, we will raise all money during the Read-A-Thon and be able to find ways to get donations from local businesses, so there is little-to-no-ask for parents to donate. Just a fun night to get our Lane community together!

Restaurant Nights Chair - This person reaches out to local restaurants (we've pre-identified some to start with) to ask for them to set-up a fundraiser night or two where a percentage of proceeds go back to our school. This is a low-maintenance position, and is entirely set-up prior to the school year, to include flyer development to advertise these nights each month.

Spiritwear Chair - This is a new opportunity to volunteer. In the past, we've done two spiritwear sales a year through VP Fundraising. For next school year, we'd like to have a collection of spiritwear that we can offer year-round. Everything will be set-up prior to the start of the school year, so during the year, this position will just monitor sales, and troubleshoot, if needed.

VP Communications - This position divides and conquers the communication work with the co-chair. In previous years, one person was in charge of developing flyers (using our Canva Pro account...which is super fun to use!) while the other person does the Social Media posts on our Facebook PTA page and updates the bulletin board (seasonally) that is at the entrance of the school. Ideally, all flyers will be drafted before the start of the school year, so we just ensure they are printed for Wednesday Folders, as scheduled on our calendar.

Co-Chair Communications - This position works hand-in-hand with the VP Communications. Creatively finding ways to communicate with the Lane Community, such as Facebook posts, emails through Memberhub, and sharing information through The Weekly Roar.

Co-Chair Education - This position is new, but since the other VP positions have co-chairs and team members, we figured VP Education should too. This person will work hand-in-hand with the VP Education to schedule after school enrichment opportunities, in addition to working closely with the Inclusivity Chair to ensure our student's needs are being met.

The final PTA meeting of the year, which includes board elections, is this evening, Tuesday, May 2nd, at 6:30pm on Zoom.

As the Principal, I love seeing all of the support the PTA offers for our students and staff, but without the volunteers, I know the PTA will be extremely limited in what they can offer.

Thank you for your consideration and I hope to see you on the call this evening.
