My Dearest Sleepy Hollow Family,

We hope this newsletter finds you in the best of health and in great spirits. The wait is officially over—our Region 2 Leadership Team is pleased to announce Ms. Mirnaly Vega as the new Principal of Sleepy Hollow Elementary, effective July 5, 2023!

Ms. Vega, currently the Assistant Principal at Bailey's Elementary School for the Arts & Sciences, is an experienced administrator with a track record of leadership working in diverse schools. Ms. Vega brings a holistic approach to education, taking time to listen, respond thoughtfully, and adjust to the needs of students, parents, and the community. She inspires students and staff to be their best. Ms. Vega is passionate about ensuring a school's climate is respectful, inclusive, and culturally responsive. She recognizes that sustaining family engagement through transparent communication is the key to building trusting relationships and ensuring that every family has equitable access to resources. Ms. Vega has over 16 years of experience as an educator and nine years of administrative experience, having served as the Assistant Principal at Westgate Elementary and most recently as the Assistant Principal at Bailey's Elementary School for the Arts & Sciences.

Ms. Vega is excited to join the Sleepy Hollow Elementary family. Please know that Ms. Vega and I will work closely together prior to my leaving on June 30, 2023, to ensure a smooth transfer of leadership. As she takes the reins, she will work closely with Mr. Scesney, Assistant Principal, to build upon the work we as a school community have already accomplished together. Please join our Region 2 Leadership Team and me in welcoming Ms. Vega as the new Principal of Sleepy Hollow Elementary School.

Wishing you a week filled with Amazing Grace and Gratefulness!

~Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist merely of words. Gratitude is shown in acts. ~ Henri Frederic Amiel

All the best,
Mattie S. Fallen, Principal

Family Life Education Instructional Program Information

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) offers a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through twelfth.  Instruction is seen as a partnership between parents and guardians, the school, and the community to support learning essential for the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.

Parents/guardians may choose to exclude their child from all or part of the Family Life Education program.  Students who are excluded receive age-appropriate, non-punitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices.  If you wish to exclude your child from all or part of FLE for this school year, opt-out forms will be included in your child's back-to-school/orientation packages and are available online for.  Complete the opt-out form and return it to your child's school prior to Family Life Education instruction.

Detailed descriptions of the grade-level program are available online at Elementary (K-6).  FLE grade-level specific lessons and the media for which FCPS has streaming rights are available to parents online at Schoology.  Parents/guardians log in to Schoology with the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) parent account.  Grade-level specific lessons are also available at the Fairfax City Regional Library (this location has no means).  Grade-level specific lessons and media that are not streamed online are available for review in your child's school library.  Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.

Questions about the program can be addressed at your child's school or by contacting Instructional Services at 571-423-4550 or fle@fcps.edu
