- Saturday, May 20th - Community Celebration
- Monday, May 29th - Memorial Day
All parents, students, and staff are encouraged to help with the final selection of our mural of General Colin L. Powell! Voting will NOT be done during the school day by students. Parents and caregivers, please take time to look through the options with your child(ren) and help them vote from home.
Votes are accepted via this link until Thursday, May 11th: https://tinyurl.com/cpesmural
- The painting of the mural will be overseen by our art teachers, Ms. Washington and Ms. Crable.
- Any parents or staff interested in helping with painting the mural should reach out to Ms. Washington.
- The art teachers will draw a grid on the wall to serve as a guide so that volunteers will be able to support the effort in a way that will be much like a “Paint by Number” approach.
- We anticipate that volunteers will help with painting the background and our art teachers will paint the image of General Powell to capitalize on their training in portraiture.
- Volunteers will be invited to paint during the school day and during select times outside of the school day. More information to come as a schedule is determined.
- Due to safety concerns, students may not participate in painting the mural because we are not permitted to have children handle wall paint.
Questions? Please don’t hesitate to let Ms. Washington, Ms. Crable or Ms. Luerssen know. We are excited to see the mural come to life after the final selection is made!
Parents, please do not park in the driving lanes of the Kiss & Ride parking lot. All parked cars in the lot must be parked in a parking space. Thank you for keeping the travel lanes safe for our students and drivers!
Great news! Connor Kim, a 6th grader in Mrs. Gant's class, won 2nd place at the 2023 Misbin Chamber Music Competition last weekend. The Misbin Chamber Music Competition is an annual event featured by Washington Performing Arts and Levin Music School, and it's one of the most competitive chamber music events in the District of Columbia, Virginia, and Maryland.
Connor participated in the competition under the name Topaz Tiro, as a pianist in the Piano Trio with Erin Kwak (a violinist in AYPO) and Joel Sohn (a cellist in AYPO). They are all 6th graders in FCPS. Connor also plays piano and cello in the AYPO (American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras), starting from the 2022-2023 school year.

Students in grades 3-12 took the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener in March. The SEL Screener reports will be mailed directly to families in the next week. This website includes both the Parent Report as well as a Family Guide to support you in understanding results and ideas for talking with your student about their results. Both are available in multiple languages. To learn more about SEL and how we support students at school and at home please see the FCPS SEL website. Please reach out to our school counselors, school psychologist or school social worker with any questions.
Our Young Scholars participated in some fun building and coding with Lego Robotics kits! Their final challenge was to design their own vehicle, code it, and race it to the finish line! Students learned how to program and use motors and sensors. It was so much fun!
