Hello Shrevewood Families,
As we conclude Staff Appreciation Week, we want to take this opportunity to thank our staff for all of the wonderful things that they do every single day. They have demonstrated remarkable dedication and flexibility, and we are continually impressed by their unwavering commitment to our school and our students. We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our parents and community members who donated goodies for our staff this week and volunteered their time to show their appreciation.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Joshua DeSmyter, Principal
Katie Vandawalker, Assistant Principal
All students will need their laptops and chargers at school with them for SOL testing. Classes will set up their testing space for the SOL the day before testing, so please check with your student to make sure they have their laptop and charger in their backpack the day before testing. Your child should get a good night of sleep the night before the test. If you have any questions about SOL testing, please email Katie Vandawalker (kmvandawalke@fcps.edu).
If you do not already have a SIS ParentVUE account, sign up now to monitor and support your child’s academic success! Through ParentVUE, you are able to view your student’s attendance, grades, and assignments at any time. You can also access special reports for your student like progress reports and assessment score reports.
Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. Access SIS ParentVUE by using an app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android devices.
Need help creating a SIS ParentVue account? This video walks through the steps. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.
Students in grades 3-12 took the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener in March. The SEL Screener reports will be mailed directly to families in the next week. This website includes both the Parent Report as well as a Family Guide to support you in understanding results and ideas for talking with your student about their results. Both are available in multiple languages. To learn more about SEL and how we support students at school and at home please see the FCPS SEL website. Please reach out to our School Counselors, Shari Winston or Cam Boster, School Psychologist, Sarah D’Elia, or School Social Worker, Jamie Silver with any questions.
Join us for Dining for Dollars on Wednesday, May 17th. Lazy Mike's is located at 7049 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church.
Take the night off from cooking and grab dinner, or just stop by for ice cream! Eat in or take out.
Mention Shrevewood and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Shrevewood PTA.
Thank you for your support!
Next week, our Positivity Project lessons during Morning Meeting will be focusing on the character strength of Leadership. You value each member of your group and inspire other people to do their best.
Questions that you can discuss with your child include:
- What are some of the characteristics of a good leader?
- Do you consider yourself a leader? If not, what are some characteristics that might make that more possible? If so, what are the characteristics of leadership you need to build on to make yourself a stronger leader?
- How does it make you feel to think about yourself as a leader?
"The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things."
-Ronald Reagan
In elementary school, kindergarten-sixth grade students' phones must be silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day. Watches that serve a dual purpose (e.g., smart watch) may be worn; however, phone features (e.g., texting, Internet, calls, etc.) are to be off during the school day. Students are prohibited from using phones, smart watches, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms, the cafeteria, and at recess unless there is a true emergency. The full SR&R can be accessed online at: https://www.fcps.edu/srr
In case you missed it in FCPS This Week, the school division shared updates on the following topics:
- Mental Health Care for High Schoolers
- Register Today for FCPS Summer Camps
- Student Bus Passes
Read FCPS This Week to learn more about these topics. If you are not already receiving the weekly newsletter, sign up today.
We will be recognizing and honoring our students' birthdays monthly. For the safety of all students and staff in our building and to limit the amount of classroom disruptions, please do not send in food or toys for your child's birthday.
