Teacher/Staff Appreciation

Teacher Appreciation

We're grateful to our school community for honoring our staff this week. The PTA, parents and especially Katie Abbott did an amazing job of making the staff feel appreciated.

Principal Prindle Recognized with 2023 First Class Award for Excellence in Special Education

Principal Prindle was recognized with the 2023 First Class Award for Excellence in Special Education in the category of Elementary School Administrator at the 18th annual Special Education Conference.

Attendance: Impact on School Accreditation

Attendance-es

Did you know that federal initiatives to reduce chronic absenteeism began during the Obama Administration with the Every Student, Every Day initiative? The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA; 2015) requires states to broaden school accountability beyond achievement on standardized tests and high school graduation rates by requiring at least one measure of “school quality or student success.” The state of Virginia chose chronic absenteeism as a measure of accountability and improvement. Students who are absent 10% or more of the school year (18 days or more) are considered chronically absent.

At Wakefield Forest ES 7.5% of students are noted as having chronic absences.

Family Input Form SY 2023-24

Developing class assignments each year is a complex process. School administration, classroom teachers, counselors, special education staff and specialists all have the opportunity to provide feedback on class groupings.

If you have feedback that you would like for us to consider, please add it to this Family Input Form no later than May 12, 2023. Late submissions will not be accepted. We will consider all feedback provided, but we are not always able to fulfill requests.

We respectfully ask that you do not request particular teachers. It is unfair to give special consideration to some families when it would be impossible to grant requests from all families. Please be aware that grade level assignments for staff sometimes change, due to late enrollments or other changes.  Staff assignments are determined at the end of the summer.
