Hi VRES Families,
Thank you to the students, parents, staff, and our wonderful PTA for an amazing Viking Dash Bash! It was fun to watch students complete the obstacle course and listen to music while enjoying yummy treats with their friends and family! The rain can’t get us down! I am so appreciative of our PTA’s creative approach to problem solving!
We continue to collaborate with the PTA to make the beautification of our school a priority for our students. Thank you to our generous PTA for the gorgeous mural in the main stairwell. If you haven’t seen it, check out the picture below.
Although the end of the school year is approaching, I would like to remind you that our students still need to attend school regularly. Consistent attendance is crucial for the academic success of all students. Studies have repeatedly proven that students with better attendance records perform better in school and are more likely to graduate high school on time.
Attending school even if your student arrives late is valuable for their academic and social success at school. Please encourage your student to arrive on time every day and maintain regular attendance until the last day of school. Together, we can work toward increasing school attendance rates and improving academic outcomes for all our students.
Please read the tips below to support regular school attendance and foster a positive attitude in your student regarding school and education:
- Establish routines that help reduce stress.
- Maintain strong connections with friends and teachers to ensure prompt communication in case of any concern or emergency.
- Provide us with your updated email address and phone number.
- Review your student’s attendance record regularly and make necessary adjustments after tardiness or medical appointments to your school office
I’m sure you will agree…we have the BEST teachers and instructional staff in Fairfax County Public Schools! I am SO happy and fortunate to work with such an outstanding group of colleagues. Happy Teacher Appreciation week to the VRES Staff! Thank you to the PTA and parent community for spoiling our teachers this week. The school will continue the celebration with yummy treats for the teachers and instructional staff during the month of May.

2023-24 STUDENT PLACEMENT PROCEDURES
As the 2022-2023 school year draws to a close, we start to consider class placements for next year. At Virginia Run ES, our specialists and classroom teachers work together to review and discuss information about each student in order to form classes that are balanced in a variety of areas. Our goal is to place each child in a class where his or her individual instructional, social, and emotional needs are met. If you have any information about your child and/or the type of learning environment you feel would be best suited for your child, please share it with Ms. Bumbrey in writing on or before Friday, May 12, 2023. Please do not, however, request a particular teacher as changes in personnel may occur and are also impacted by an increase or decrease in enrollment. Requests for a particular teacher will not be granted. Thank you!

Teacher Appreciation Week
Teacher Appreciation Week is this week! The PTA has put together an activity schedule of events to celebrate our fabulous teachers. This is what is planned for the rest of this week.
Thursday – Snacks and Drinks will be provided in the staff lounges
Friday – PTA will host “Ice Cream Day” for the teachers
Art Walk
It is almost time for the annual Art Walk! We would like to invite all families to come to Virginia Run Elementary on Thursday, June 8th from 5:00 - 6:30 pm to walk the halls and see all the beautiful artwork the kids have been working hard on this year. We will have one artwork from each student up, and a student art scavenger hunt with prizes sponsored by the PTA. We hope you can find time to stop by!
While you’re there, stop by the PTA table to cast a ballot for the 2023 – 2024 Executive Board. The PTA will also have some sweet treats available for purchase.
Any parents that are available to help hang artwork during the school day June 5th – 7th, please contact your classroom teacher or Mrs. Adkins (sjadkins@fcps.edu) or Mrs. Tuben (mktuben@fcps.edu).

Lost and Found Drive-Through
We will be putting the Lost and Found outside in the bus loop on the following days from 9:30 am - 6:30 pm. If you think your child may have lost a jacket, lunch box or water bottle, come on up and check out the lost and found. After June 16th, all items will be donated.

VRES Donut Drive-Thru
If you pre-ordered donuts, pick-up is on Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 8:00 am - 10:00 am at our Donut Drive-thru in the VRES Kiss-n-Ride lane. All proceeds raised by the PTA will be used to support programs at VRES.

The PTA is pleased to offer school supply kits as a convenient way to purchase exactly what your child needs for the class room! These kits match our school requirements for each grade. This is NOT a fundraiser but a service which is guaranteed to save you time, money and the hassle of finding that correct item!
You may order online by using the instructions below or you may order by returning the order form that was sent home in the Wednesday folder along with your payment by June 16th. Make Checks Payable to Virginia Run PTA.

EPI Pre-Order Supply Form for 2023-2024 School Year
PTA Executive Board Elections
The PTA is currently accepting nominations for the 2023-2024 VRES PTA Executive Board. To run for a position, send an email to the nominating committee at enningaamy@gmail.com with the position for which you would like to run.
Candidates may run for any position, but we currently have TWO positions without a candidate, VP of Education and VP of Social. These positions must be filled or we will not be able to continue to provide the before/after school clubs, Science Quest, social events such as the Back to School Picnic, Fall Fest/Trunk or Treat, Movie nights or staff appreciation lunches. Each term lasts one year with a two year maximum.
VP of Education - Attend PTA meetings, organize assemblies, coordinate Science Quest and before/after school enrichment.
VP of Social - Attend PTA meetings, oversee social events (welcome walk, Fall Fest/Trunk or Treat, BINGO, etc), organize staff appreciation breakfasts/lunches, communicates with room parent coordinator, organizes teacher appreciation week activities.

PE Summer Sports Camp
This 4-day camp will offer a variety of different sports and activities for students in all grades. This camp is open to all Virginia Run students in grades K-6.
Dates: Tuesday, June 27th - Friday, June 30th
Location: Virginia Run Elementary
Times: Morning session (9 am - 1pm) or Afternoon session (1:30 pm - 5:30 pm)
Cost: $115/student

Elementary Institute for The Arts
Students in all FCPS schools can enroll in the Elementary Institute for the Arts (EIFTA). EIFTA is a weekly arts enrichment program for students in rising 3rd through 6th grades and will be held during the month of July. Students take classes in art, music, theatre, and dance every day. Transportation is provided from around the county. Tuition assistance is available for students who qualify.
