Taste of Annandale

The community is invited to the Taste of Annandale, a free family-friendly festival April 29, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., along Tom Davis Drive.

The Taste of Annandale features live performances, food trucks and restaurants, children’s programming and activities, a 5K race, a best-dressed pet contest, vendors, a chili cookoff, beer garden, and the police helicopter.

The Taste of Annandale is organized by the Annandale-Mason Roundtable, a nonprofit formed by volunteers. The festival was developed with two major goals in mind: to bring the community together to celebrate Annandale and to shine a spotlight on local businesses and organizations.

Since the first Taste of Annandale in 2015, it has grown every year to become the biggest street festival in the area. The festival’s partners include the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services, Mason Police District, Celebrate Fairfax, and the ACCA Child Development Center.

If you would like to volunteer, please contact Hadyn Kihm, 703-324-5713, mailto:Hadyn.kihm@fairfaxcounty.gov.

Campers can bring their lunch or purchase lunch at camp, and they should bring a snack and a water bottle each day. Cash or checks are accepted. Checks should be made out to “Annandale Athletic Boosters”. Payment is due on the first day of camp.

Teacher Appreciation Week

The first week of May is Teacher Appreciation Week! We like to shower our fabulous teachers with love that week. One of the ways we do that is by raffling off gift cards! If you are able to donate $5, $10, $15 gift cards to places like, Amazon, Dollar Tree, Giant, Target, or local businesses - the PTA and teachers would be VERY grateful!

The Collaborator Attribute

What is a Collaborator?

Students that embody the attribute of collaborator work respectfully with others by honoring different viewpoints, ideas, and perspectives to achieve common goals.

Collaborator Skills and K-6 Objectives:

    • Respects divergent thinking to engage others in thoughtful discussion.
  • I respectfully listen to other points of view.
    • Demonstrates the ability to work interdependently within a group to promote learning, increase productivity, and achieve common goals.
  • I share my ideas with my team and encourage others to help.
    • Analyzes and constructs arguments and positions to ensure examination of a full range of viewpoints.
  • I try to see things from other people’s side.
    • Seeks and uses feedback from others to adapt ideas and persist in accomplishing difficult tasks.
  • I give helpful feedback to others and I use feedback from others to improve my work.
  • When problems arise, I help find solutions.

Support the Collaborator Attribute at Home

Consider telling your child when they are demonstrating a skill at home or in a social setting, "You were a collaborator today when you helped your sister with reading a word."

Instead of asking your child "What did you learn today?" try these questions instead.

  • How were you a collaborator today?
  • How did you help your team finish the [activity, project, assignment]?
  • Did you have a chance to see things from a different side? What did you learn when you did that?
