Haycock Hello 5.1.23

hhh

Dear Haycock Families,

We look forward to celebrating our teachers and staff members this week.  You can submit a recorded message thanking and celebrating our school's amazing teachers and staff.  Your video message may be selected to share with our teachers and community members on FCPS' website and social media channels throughout Teacher Appreciation Week.

Our strings and chorus students put on wonderful concerts last week. Heartfelt thanks to Ms. Blitch, Ms. Howell, Mr. Deal, Ms. Blaha, and Ms Clark, our strings and general music teachers!  We hope to see many of you this Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. for our spring band concert.

We will meet for our third and last time for the parent book group reading and exploring the ideas in Where You Go Is Not Who You Will Be by Frank Burns.  Join us even if you haven't read the book on Wednesday, May 3 at 7:00 p.m. using this link.

According to a recent study of elementary and middle schools, there is a 5.8% difference between April and June attendance rates. Let's work together to end the school year strong and successfully! Visit FCPS’ website for attendance resources.

We begin SOL testing this week. Our students are ready!  Please make sure they get a good night's rest and a good breakfast before their SOL tests. We also ask your assistance with avoiding making appointments that mean a student will be arriving late or leaving early on the testing days.

With appreciation for your partnership,

Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu

Heather Boyd, AP  HABoyd@fcps.edu

Jody Delaney, AP jmdelaney@fcps.edu

Bike to School

Wednesday, May 3, is the official Bike to School Day. Plan your ride whether you ride to school, to a park, or just within your neighborhood.

There are bike racks located near the flag pole to lock up bikes.  If there is no room in the front, you may lock your bike or scooter up to the outside of the basketball courts near the playground.  After you have secured your bike or scooter, make your way through door #1 under the awning to receive your sticker for participating.  On a first come, first served basis, we will also be handing out wristbands as well as reflectors.  Students may choose either the wristband or reflector as supplies last.  Please let Mrs. Hecht or Mr. Wilcox know if you have any questions.

history

Congratulations to all our 6th grade students for the amazing work they did on their National History Day projects; congratulations to those who went on to the District and State National History Day competitions; and congratulations to those who are now moving onto the National competition.  Heartfelt thanks for the work and dedication of the 6th grade teachers who supported and guided our students in completing these phenomenal projects.

Kent Gardens Capacity Challenges:  Boundary Scoping

FCPS is exploring options to address capacity challenges at Kent Gardens Elementary School. One option being considered is a boundary change. The first step in the process is to gather initial feedback about a potential boundary scope, including which elementary schools may be included. We encourage you to share your feedback on potential boundary scope. Feedback form is open through May 10, 2023.

Please see this flyer with the link to the feedback form.

Field Day- Parent Volunteer Opportunity

Have you been looking for an opportunity to volunteer at Haycock?  Well look no more!! We need volunteers to help us lead stations at this year’s Field Day.  It will take place on Friday, June 2nd with a rain date of Friday, June 9th.  Please complete this google form to let us know that you are interested by Monday, May 15th at 9:00 a.m.  If you have questions, please reach out to Nisha Hecht or Jim Wilcox, our PE teachers.

Community Conversation: School Safety and Security

FCPS will host a community conversation to discuss our approach to safety and security, and the work we do every day to keep our schools safe. Join us Monday, May 8, 6:30-7:30 p.m., at South Lakes High School. Registration information will be available soon..

FCPS staff and experts will review our risk assessment processes, the physical measures we already have in place to protect our students and staff, pilot programs to detect vaping, and how we communicate and collaborate with our partners when there is an incident at our schools.

Final Feedback Opportunity - Strategic Plan Survey

FCPS has almost completed the process of drafting a new Strategic Plan, which will guide our school division in the years ahead. Please participate in our brief survey regarding final input on the Strategic Plan’s draft goals, measures, and pillars. The goals are what we want for all students, and the measures are how we will determine our progress in reaching those goals. The pillars are the things that FCPS must do well to reach our goals. Your voice matters!
