We're Better Together
Dear Franklin Sherman Families,
The past few years have taught us to be grateful for that which had become commonplace. To that end, we are so excited to see our students connecting their learning through field trips! Our PTA support defers the cost of the buses and helps make these experiences possible for our students.
Another family favorite event, International Night, will return this week. This is a great time to come together and celebrate our diverse cultures.
Starting next week, we will begin our Standards of Learning Tests for Grades 3-6. Please refer to the schedule below. All tests begin in the morning and are untimed. Please try to avoid arriving late or picking up your child on the day of these tests. Your children and the staff have worked hard all year and these assessments provide us with important information that will guide our work in the future.
Have a great week!
Ms. Quigley
Principal

Support International Night
Friday, May 5 @ 6-8 p.m.
Grab a passport and join us as we gather to celebrate our different cultures at International Night. The magic of International Night is created by the wonderful families who share their culinary traditions and information about their culture. Nearly 30 cultures will be represented!
Please note this is NOT a drop-off event. All children should be supervised by an adult. Because we anticipate high attendance, we must limit the invitation to FSES students and their families only.
Teacher Appreciation Week is Coming (May 8-12)
While the PTA is coordinating school-wide appreciation events, we encourage you to send in personalized tokens of appreciation (e.g., drawings or thank you notes) from your student on Wednesday, May 10 to his/her teacher and the classroom's adopted staff. Room parents will also be coordinating gifts for teachers and adopted staff.
Thank you to all of the families that have agreed to stock the staff lounge with snacks/drink contributions and contribute a breakfast item for our potluck breakfast. Please check the sign ups as they include instructions for dropping items off, and we still have a few more needs to fulfill!
In addition to these events, the PTA will be treating teachers and staff to catered lunches on Tuesday and Thursday.
Sign Up for PTA Text Reminders

Pilot of Online Registration Includes Franklin Sherman
Online Registration (OLR) will be available at more than 30 pilot schools beginning Friday, March 31. All FCPS schools will offer online registration beginning in June.
Families will be able to register their students electronically via SIS ParentVUE. Directions to setting up a SIS ParentVUE account are on the online registration page.
The new system reduces manual data entry of basic student registration at all schools, allows online registration using the portal at any hour of any day, and enables secure electronic upload of student registration documents and storage, reducing paper records management. Parents/Guardians will continue to have the option of downloading the registration form bundle or paper registration forms as needed. Visit our website for more information on registering your child.
Student's Intentions for SY 23-24
Parent’s need to complete this intention form if their child will not be returning to Franklin Sherman ES in 2023-2024. Email the form to our registrar, Ann Rajabi.
Internet Content Filtering and Usage Reports for Parents
Did you know? There is an online service that is free to FCPS parents who are interested in knowing more about their child’s internet activity on an FCPS device. Parents can sign up to receive a weekly Parent Report from Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service, which will provide a list of the top sites the child visited that week.
Additionally, if parents wish to get more detailed information, the weekly Parent Report offers parents the ability to self-sign-up to the free Internet Use Parent Portal. Parents who sign up for the Internet Use Parent Portal can log-in any time to see a little more detail about their child’s internet browsing. The portal also offers the parent added ability to “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours on the FCPS device.
Learn more about this and other Digital Citizenship and Safety topics on the FCPS website.
